Blood is thicker than water. Indeed, family relationship is strongest than bond of friendship or love; and it's very evident for celebrities Jackque Gonzaga and Ion Perez who professed their undying support to their siblings and would do anything for them in the name of love.
Magandang Buhay featured the two rising stars whom we always see competing for Vice Ganda’s special attention in It’s Showtime. Jackque and Ion, together with their siblings, guested in the morning talk show to share their story as siblings and how it made their life meaningful.
It’s Showtime’s Ate Girl is the youngest among her three siblings. Being the youngest, she would always become the subject of her siblings' gags.
One funny instance was when Aldean, Jackie’s older brother, intentionally wore Ate Girl’s pep squad uniform.
Ate Girl saw the picture of her brother, wearing her pep squad uniform and immediately went back home. To her surprise, she said “ang luwag na! Pang-competition 'yun. Paano! Parang daster na sa akin.”
But being the baby in the family also gave her advantages when it comes to their daliy house chores. She said “ Since ako bulinggit pa lang ako, sila malalaki… siyempre sila ang mag-iigib ng tubig. Sasama lang ako.” In that situation, Aldean never felt a tinge of bitterness for he understands his responsibility in their family.
And now that they’re grown ups, their relationship became stronger. Currently, her brother serves as her personal driver. As Ate Girl shared “kapag kailangan ko pong umuwi at marami akong dalang damit, laundry, magpapasundo ako sa kanya. Minsan ‘pag may raket, out of town magpapasama din po ako.”
Moreover, the two were also able to share the most challenging situation they faced together. December 2018, Aldean’s 10-year-old son JJ was in need ofr a major heart operation. Because of financial problem, he felt hopeless and during that time, he could only think one person who could help him in his problem; and that is her sister.
Aldean felt relieved after his son became stable, and was very happy because a lot of people actually helped them to save JJ. He said, “Sobrang dami pong tumulong. Lahat po mga kaibigan niya, fans niya. Ang dami pong tumulong talaga.”
In the same interview, Aldean started to thank her sister about everything she did for his son. As he said in teary eyes “Maraming salamat kasi hindi mo ako iniwan. (cries) kahit nasa trabaho, nasa rehearsal.
Jackie also gave him a heartfelt message: “Nandito lang ako ‘pag kelangan n'yo ako. 'Pag meron o wala, gagawan natin ng paraan.” Currently, Ate Girl is consistently helping his brother’s needs. In fact, she remarked “Kahit maliit na amount lang, lalo na kung may extra ako, magbibigay ako kasi sila 'yung nakabukod.”
Furthermore, the episode were able to tackle the different issues among the siblings in the family such as pride and jealousy, like the instance, which the youngest becomes more capable of helping, compared to the eldest.
Dr. Ali Gui, Relational Life Coach and Psychologist, affirmed that such negative emotion is inevitable and very common in all families. But she reminded that Filipino family is naturally caring and loving, as she reiterated “being the bread winner, hindi lang inaabot natin ay pera. She added that good foundation of love could save family problems.
Likewise, Dr. Gui also explained the issue among siblings about the attention the parents give to them.
Ion, who has 14 siblings, shared that there was a moment in his life that he felt deprived.
Dr. Gui enlightened the issue why the youngest usually became the parents’ favorite.
She also explained why parents always assume their eldest to be more understandable and therefore should always adjust to his/her younger siblings.
The psychologist was also able to talk about the challenges that a middle child is going through. She said “Sa panganay wala kang choice kundi ibili mo na. But middle child tends to be very independent. Naha “hand-me-down”.
However, Jackque shared that she felt she’s not her parents’ favorite. The relational life coach explained “maybe at that time ang mommy mo mas nakita niya na mas need ng kuya mo.”
In the end, Dr. Gui gave an important reminder to all the siblings that family bond is strongest and there’s a significant purpose in every sibling connection.
At the end of the show, the celebrity guests and their siblings left a warm message to each other.
