Regine’s valuable insights on love & life

Being one of the most prominent pop culture icons in the Philippines, it’s definitely impossible for a Filipino to not at least know the name of Regine Velasquez-Alcasid.

While she’d been famous for her formidable singing prowess, her impressive acting chops, and her sold-out shows and other music-related achievements in the past decades that she has been in the local entertainment scene, avid Kapamilya viewers eventually also got to see her side as a sensible talk show host ever since joining Jolina Magdangal and Melai Cantiveros as their new official co-host of “Magandang Buhay” in 2022.

And throughout her stint on the show, the Asia’s Songbird has not only amused us with her banter, reactions, and expressions, but also impresses us with the touching and relatable words of wisdom that she imparts to everyone with regard to the different aspects of life. We featured some of them in this edition of Magandang Buhay Toplist!

Regine talks about being the breadwinner

As someone who used to be the breadwinner of her family, especially in the early years of her career, Momshie Regine related how very grateful and proud she is to be able to help her parents and siblings.

According to her, she feels really blessed that her siblings didn’t take her sacrifices and hardwork for granted, as they were all able to finish their education and are now the ones who look after her as if she’s the bunso of the family.

While helping our families is definitely good, she reminded everyone to not let them completely depend on us because, first and foremost, our main responsibility should be ourselves.

Regine on finding the right person

As “TV Patrol” news anchor Bernadette Sembrano talked about still not having a child despite being married to husband Orange Aguinaldo for more than a decade now, Momshie Regine shared that she was already 40 when she and husband Ogie Alcasid got married. Thus, they didn’t really expect anymore to be blessed with a child until she got pregnant with their unico hijo, Nate.

But although they were not given a kid, the OPM icon said that she would still be happy since she was already content to be married to the person with whom she would spend the rest of her life. In the end, our spouses are a gift from God, so we must be grateful for them.

Regine’s secret to a happy relationship

Hearing from Donny Pangilinan and Belle Pangilinan that they regard one another as best friends, Regine couldn’t help but be reminded of how she and Ogie used to be since they also started out the same.

According to her, she loves spending time with Ogie, so she regarded their wedding as one of the “best days” of her life since that marked the beginning of her life together with her “best friend.”

Thus, she advised DonBelle to take their sweet time in getting to know each other more and just enjoying the moment that they share together, either good or bad. Because for her, this would be the “best part” of their relationship since they would go through a lot, regardless if it would take the next level or not. This advice apparently made the pair kilig and touched.

Regine opens up about her passion for singing

For her birthday celebration in 2023, “Magandang Buhay” invited her “Ate” Sharon Cuneta to come over to personally deliver her greeting and talk about their precious friendship. Momshie Regine wasn’t able to contain her emotion when she admitted that her voice wasn’t as powerful as she used to have in her younger years.

As she revisited the concert where she suddenly lost her voice mid-performance, the “ASAP” artist revealed that her confidence actually vanished as well because of that incident, and she has been struggling ever since. So at present, as she began to embrace the changes in her voice, she implied that she doesn’t sing for the purpose of impressing the fans and spectators, but to convey the message of the song and touch souls through her soulful performance.

“What I’ve learned from all these experience ko na ‘to, parang binibigay din sa akin ‘to ni Lord. Kapag hirap akong palabasin ang boses ko, hindi n’yo na ako mapapanood ng ganito kasi ngayon kapag kumakanta ako, yes, I may have a hard time making my voice come out, but my passion is there. So, when you see me cry, it’s because I feel the song,” Momshie Regine related. “Na-humble ako, pero gusto ko kasi nakita ko ulit ‘yong passion ko sa pagkanta. And this is what I love to do and I’ll continue to do it.”

Regine practices positive self-affirmations

Ever wondered why Regine seems to always be in a sunny disposition? Well, she revealed in an episode that one of her secrets is practicing positive self-affirmation every time she wakes up in the morning. She does this by looking at herself in the mirror and saying everything that would make her feel better on a certain day.

She divulged to the momshies that she usually talks to herself as she discovered the power of self-affirmation. In fact, their resident psychologist, Tofi de Jesus, advises his clients to do so because words are very powerful.

Momshie Regine demonstrated it through the mirror provided in the studio and uttered, “Isa kang mabuting tao. Mahal ka ng asawa mo, mahal ka ng Panginoon, mahal ka ng buo mong pamilya. Magiging maganda ang araw mo today.”

Regine shows love to the LGBTQIA+ community

And ultimately, having a lot of gay friends, not to mention that she’s one of the icons of gays, Regine disclosed that she’s well-aware of the challenges that the LGBTQIA+ community goes through. And one of them is the acceptance of the family.

Despite being beaten up, insulted, and ridiculed, it amazes her that there are instances where it’s the gay people who still end up being the ones to take good care of their parents as they grow old or to provide for the family.

Thus, she told one of their guests, social media star Inah Evans, during his guesting in the morning talk program, “Sa totoo lang, you guys are such a wonderful gift from God. So never think that you are a mistake because God never makes a mistake.”
