“Are you ok?”
These may only be three simple words, but these are already enough to melt the heart of single working mom Candy Pangilinan, as what she had revealed during her recent interview in Magandang Buhay when asked what are the “best words” her beloved unico hijo has ever told her.
“Kasi usually nakikita niya pagod na pagod na ako, ang dami kong ginagawa, ‘di ba? Kasi pa-all-around ang beauty ng lola n’yo,” she explained. “Ang dami kong ginagawa – nagvo-vlog, nag-oonline dito, naglilinis, nag-aasikaso sa kanya. Tapos minsan nakikita niya patulala na ako, nagbebenta pa ako ng kung ano-ano. Tinatanong niya ako minsan, ‘mom, are you okay?’.”
Those who follow the veteran actress-comedienne on Instagram and on her YouTube channel probably has nothing but admiration towards the tight bond she’s able to develop with her son, who’s diagnosed with autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Even though raising a child with special needs is already challenging, she’s able to handle it all too well while taking on various showbiz commitments and taking on other gigs in the past years.
And their unbreakable tandem has won our hearts deeper when Candy talked about how being a mother to Quentin has changed her life forever and has transformed her into the better version of herself. With everything she has gone through, she firmly believes that her one and only child is her “ticket to heaven”, so she’s very much thankful to him.
In one of their photos together that she posted on IG, she wrote in the caption:
“As a single mother I have to provide and nurture my son. I worked doubly hard. I accepted all kinds of work. I did not only work as an actress but started to do all kinds of business – like selling bags and doing events. Why? Because the therapy of my son is expensive. I want my son to get all the help that he needed to be able to walk, talk, and communicate. I lost friends in the course of this journey because I didn't have time to spare. I also needed to be beside my son to make sure what is taught in therapy is done at home. I made sure never to make Quentin feel that something is missing. I made sure that he felt complete. I decided to focus my energy on the things that I have and can do.”
