With her wisdom and compassion, Charo Santos is one of the ‘momshies’ we admire the most. From her power leadership in media to her big love for her family, she has set an example for many women. Catch up with the multihyphenate – from her life’s new seasons to discoveries – in this episode of Magandang Buhay The Podcast.
The conversation starts with loads of good vibes as she is joined by Joel Lamangan, who plays her sassy mortal enemy in the hit series “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo.” The two banter like their characters Tindeng and Roda would, and then Lou Veloso aka Noy gets in the mix of the amusing exchange.
In the next portion of the interview, Charo opens up about her husband’s passing, expressing gratitude for the time they had to discuss life’s possibilities. She mentions that her husband had a lingering illness before he passed away, thus, somewhat, her heart was able to comprehend that death is just part of life. “Mauuna lang ako. Balang araw magkikita rin tayo,” this, her husband told her before.
Reflecting on their journey, she highlights the profound lessons her husband imparted, emphasizing the power of unconditional love. She says her husband encouraged her to pursue her dreams, telling her, “Before you are a wife or a mother, you are a person.”
She muses further, “He was never threatened by my success.”
“In the years that my husband was sick, he was never a burden. Masaya ako na naalagaan ko siya. Masaya ako na nabigay ko ang lahat para sa kanya... He allowed me to be the person that I am.”
Asked how the family has been coping with the loss, she says that it helps to understand non-verbal cues and hold on to the love they all share, “You just feel each other. Learn to read the nuances of each person in the room at respetuhin mo ang bawat tao na kasama mo.”
Charo exudes incredible strength, but she clarifies, “Pero hindi ako superwoman, ha. May mga pagkakataon na napapagod ako.” What she does is honor her feelings and move forward from there, “Hindi ako nagtatapang-tapangan.”
Switching gears, we catch a glimpse of her other role at home. She revels in the joys of being a grandmother, “Masarap maging lola kasi wala ka namang responsibility sa pagdsiplina sa kanila. You just enjoy them.” But she talks to them about good values now and then.
The conversation unfolds further, shedding light on her passion for travel as a means of bonding with her family. Additionally, she delves into her latest business venture, offering insights into the unique experience of working with her siblings.
In the latter part, she graciously acknowledges the heartfelt messages received from her children, grandkids, and her ‘angels’’ at home, whose lives she has touched. She also fondly speaks of her stepdaughter, whom she considers one of her truest friends.
The conversation takes an exciting turn as Charo admits to feeling ‘kilig’ after receiving a special message from Piolo Pascual. Check out her fun revelations from their “Esperanza” days. She’s also got a sweet message from her on-screen apo, Coco Martin, and discloses the greatest advice she imparts to the Primetime King.
