BFF Goals! Endearing celebrity friendships that warmed our hearts on “Magandang Buhay” in 2023

Finding a true friend can be quite a challenge, even more so in the fast-paced, unpredictable world of showbiz. That’s why these celebrity companions are blessed to have found the kind of friendship that has continued to thrive through different seasons of their lives.

For your dose of inspiration as we bid goodbye to the year 2023, here are some highlight episodes from Magandang Buhay that gave us a peek into the special connection and cherished moments of joy and laughter of celebrity friends.

Jane and Janella

On February 9, we hung out with DarLentina themselves, Jane de Leon and Janella Salvador, to know more of their off-cam dynamic and how they grew from awkward strangers to BFFs. In the episode, they shared that although they weren't that close in the beginning, they made an effort to break each other's walls knowing they’d be spending a lot of time together in their taping bubble for Mars Ravelo’s Darna.

It can be a challenge for introverts to make friends and talk to people. But because they are both introverts, they get each other’s mood. When one of them is too quiet, they don’t take it personally. Instead, they respect each other’s alone time and capacity to socialize. That way, they make their sisterhood run smoothly.

And  we find it so cute how Jane is a loving ‘Tita’ to Janella’s son, Jude. Best of all, they’ve already managed to prove that they got each other’s back. Real friendships stay even after a project is done. That’s why JaneNella promises to be one another’s constant companion and support system.

Iza and Jake
Yes, a girl and a boy can be BFFs, and such a relationship is very special. Case in point: Iza Calzado and Jake Cuenca, who share an extraordinary platonic bond. In the May 11 episode, the tandem reflected on the beautiful things that are blossoming in each other’s lives.

As Iza talked about her pregnancy journey, she revealed that during her “paglilihi” phase, she would often crave the presence and hugs of her ‘loveteam’ Jake, whom she jestingly called “the second father” of her child. Jake entered the studio, and Iza was delighted to see him.

After looking back on how their friendship started, they shared that Jake was going through a difficult season by the time Iza confirmed her pregnancy. And they cared for each other so much, he relied on her while working on their last project. “She was there for me every day, as in, pinupulot niya ako galing sa kama to make it to the set. Hindi ko magagawa ‘yun kung hindi si Iza ‘yung ka-partner ko. Siya nagpapaalala sa akin na kumain,” he vividly remembers how “motherly” she was.

This friendship warmed our hearts, with how they wish each other only the best.

Marvin and Jolina

Sometimes, friendship is the best love story. It’s Marvin Agustin and Jolina Magdangal’s kind of forever. They were never lovers, but will forever be best friends.

In the July 17 episode, the MarJo loveteam of the ‘90s recounted their experiences filming the iconic “Labs Kita, Okey Ka Lang?” which was celebrating its 25th anniversary. Looking back, they admitted that they cared for each other in a manner that a 17-year-old would deem special, and from there, wholesome ‘kilig’ confessions happened.

Goin’ Bulilit Squad

The July 30 episode was a reunion party for the Goin’ Bulilit stars!

Tuning in to the kiddie gag show Goin’ Bulilit used to be part of every household’s Sunday routine. To call it iconic is an understatement. Not only did the show delivered the most rib-tickling jokes, but its young cast members also shared an adorable chemistry that remains solid to this day.

It rained good vibes and nostalgia in this episode, where Nash Aguas, Sharlene San Pedro, Igi Boy Flores, CJ Navato, and Eliza Pineda reminisced their childhood, which they mostly spent on set acting out gags and skits. While it’s easy to assume that they were deprived of the typical joys of a little kid due to working young, the Goin’ Bulilit alums assert that they had a healthy work environment where they were taught discipline and professionalism, but at the same time, they were allowed to play. The truth is the set was their playground and they were all playmates.

They talked about their friendship, which they described as low-key, meaning they think about and care for one another all the time even if they don’t see each other as much. Another admirable thing about their friendship is it never turned into a competition. They just feel happy with each other’s achievements.

Jennica and Christian

Jennica Garcia and Christian Bables tackled why they’d rather be friends than lovers. In the August 24 episode, kilig confessions as the BFFs rehash their story’s prologue set in 2016 (when he ‘ghosted’ her) and how much they've grown from there and learned to keep their friendship as their safe place, despite the possibility of a romantic love being too hard to resist.

They’ve come to realize that they are like family to each other, and that their friendship is stronger and more special than a romantic kind of love. They might not become lovers, but they will forever be best friends.

Maricel and Roderick

In the world of showbiz, nothing touches the audiences' hearts more than a bond that has stood the test of time. In the November 28 episode, Maricel Soriano and Roderick Paulate brought us laughter and tears as they celebrated the roots of their genuine relationship. The BFFs gave us the chance to delve into their friendship journey that goes way back!

Their friendship, like any other, isn’t always a bed of roses. They have their days of misunderstandings, too. But they genuinely care for each other, which makes their fights easier to fix.

Their naturally funny banters tell how fun their friendship must be. They’re so in sync that they’ve created their own language of inside jokes and laughter. Maricel and Roderick’s bond is like a well-worn pair of jeans – easy, familiar, and always a good fit. From goofy secrets to hilarious antics, they navigate life with a blend of love and humor – and this is likely the secret to why their friendship is an everyday adventure.

In a world where fame can be fleeting and relationships ever changing, these celebrity friendships remind us that genuine connections are still possible to maintain. So, here’s to the enduring friendships that make showbiz shine a little brighter!
