MarNigo is everything we want in a love team. They got the looks, the talent, and the chemistry on-and-off cam that make us all thrilled and intensify our desire for them to be officially an item.
They might have been poles apart before they soared to stardom – Maris Racal hailed from Pinoy Big Brother All In, where she finished as the Second Big Placer while Iñigo Pascual continues to make his own mark out of his father Piolo’s shadow – but it seems destiny had their paths intertwined. And now, they are set to conquer the local entertainment scene as individual recording artists and performers.
Aside from being two of the hottest stars of this generation, here are five reasons why they are indeed among our ultimate OTP (or one true pairing):
Their first meeting was epic
It all started with Piolo Pascual’s amazement with Maris during his special guesting in the PBB house in 2014 and jested to the teen housemate-then to wait for his unico hijo who was staying in the United States that time. It was succeeded afterwards by Iñigo’s first tweet to her saying “Hi, I’m Inigo. This is an awkward way to say ‘hi’ but ‘hello’”, which gave birth to the tandem MarNigo.
Their first meeting was in the set of the now-defunct primetime series Hawak Kamay that the seasoned actor top-billed and Maris’ first-ever teleserye after PBB. Chatting with Vice Ganda on Gandang Gabi Vice, they relayed that gawkiness veiled that time as they both hid in different rooms because of the discomfort they felt and the people around were incessantly teasing them as well.
At the end of the day, they were able to meet personally after being left in a corner to have a tête-à-tête. So highschool-y!
Their sweetness make us melt
On-and-off cam, the two seem to have grown inseparable. Aside from working together in a number of projects, in which their chemistry is absolutely displayed, the snaps and snippets of their moments together uploaded on their respective Instagram accounts are clear proofs that something romantic might be going on between them.
Besides, they sometimes treated their avid fans with their cute exchanges in social media, not to mention the viral #100TweetsParaKayMarieStella of Inigo which set the internet abuzz last year. This effort, appended by his surprise proposal on ASAP helped him get Maris’ nod to be his date to the 2017 Star Magic Ball.
Their cute term of endearment
With or without a “label,” special nicknames seem to become a thing nowadays between millennial “couples” who are in a ‘more-than-friends-less-than-lovers’ status – and MarNigo is one of them. If KathNiel has “Bal” and JoshLia has “Baba”, theirs is Papa Pe and Mama Me.
In one of their ASAP Chillout appearances, the younger Pascual divulged that their term of endearment began after the young actress mockingly called him “Papa Peh” (derived from his dad’s alias) while they’re hanging out in the set of “The Bloody Crayons,” which Maris top-billed last year. As such, their fans, and even Iñigo, have been calling her Mama Meh. Sweet!
They are both multitalented
In this industry where competition is really tough, it’s not enough that an artist only has the allure and charisma, but he or she should possess talent as well. As such, MarNigo will surely thrive because both of them can sing, dance, play instruments, and act – one of the many reasons their fans and shippers are loving them wildly.
Both of them have already shown their acting prowess through the television programs and films they starred in in the past years. They seem to become affixed with each other’s names and often got involved in the same projects. They touched our hearts in their impressive performance in the “Tape Recorder” episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya and made us giddy with their every performance together on and off the stage.
However, we all know that both of them are more inclined to music and are now relentlessly creating their own mark in the OPM industry through their LSS-worthy and chart-topping songs. Despite pursuing their musical careers individually, MarNigo never forgot to treat their fans through their kilig song collaborations and kulitan moments in their online show OneMusic POPSSSS, which is about to embark on its sixth season.
Their friendship is “special”
Unlike others who are hesitant to speak how they really feel towards the people dear to them, this loveteam are bold enough to express their feelings for one another.
On their respective IG accounts, we can spot photos and clips of them together, attached with either wacky or poignant captions dedicated for each other.
Those who attended the Just Love Araw-Araw Fan Meet last May were able to witness the exhilarating moment when they first publicly exchanged “I love yous”, supported by their sweet gestures and touching message of support.
In their recent guesting in Magandang Buhay to celebrate their birthdays and promote their latest projects, Maris told the hosts that the question regarding the real status of their relationship is difficult to answer, comparable to their song “Tayo na Di Tayo”. However, both of them assured everyone that they are happy in each other’s company and imparted that they used to always exchange “I love yous” even behind-the-scenes.

“When I feel like I really care so much about someone and I really feel it in me, I say it. I say that I do love that person. Para sa amin, mas masaya ako if I’m able to say it personally,” Iñigo explained.
Then he added, “The thing is, that when you use that word too much and too often, it would lose its meaning. So now, we kinda decided we wanna use those words more special, and not something that we just throw everytime we want to.”
The singer-actress may not consider her partner as among her best friends, but she revealed their friendship as something special, that it would be forever a vital part of their lives. In fact, the young singer-actor also revealed that he keeps notes of every special moments of them and organized a playlist that both of them love to listen to.
Although we aren’t able to get the answer all of us are surely yearning to hear, let’s just be contented and be happy to whatever bond they have right now. After all, MarNigo told King of Talk Boy Abunda during their appearance on Tonight With Boy Abunda that they are both hoping to be each other’s lover someday and still on the stage where they savor every opportunity given to them and the friendship they have in the moment.
Just like what Iñigo said, “Love is something that is not to be rushed; it’s something that just happens when it happens.”
We’re looking forward on seeing more of MarNigo in future Kapamilya projects!
