The low-key Boy Astig of Mindoro and the loquacious Inday Kenkay of General Santos City didn't expect that aside from being two of the lucky aspirants who were picked to become Pinoy Big Brother housemates, they were also meant to find forever while inside the house.
From being mere strangers, an unexpected love story began to bloom and resulted in a loveteam that that audiences admired and rooted for, even leading to an "offspring" named Baby Dengue (a toy doll with a head showing the combined features of the couple).
From being the fan-favorite housemates and tandem during the PBB Double Up Season in 2009, Melai Cantiveros and Jason Francisco turned out to be one of the most phenomenal loveteams in showbiz due to their natural chemistry and genuine romance that made their fans swoon every time they appear together.
After admitting the real-deal between them in their ASAP guesting right after they stepped out of the house, their happy and sweet relationship has been marred with controversies, which led to their first break-up in 2012. This was said to have caused his departure from the gag show Banana Split, in which he and Melai were mainstays.
Jason disclosed in their exclusive interview in the now-defunct Sunday talk show The Buzz in 2013 that he didn’t want to become a hindrance to Melai’s flourishing career. After a year, he pursued her again and they reconciled. This time, they looked at starting a family. They tied the knot on December 9, 2013 in General Santos City and had their firstborn Amelia Lucille, or simply “Mela”, in April 2014. Since then, they lied low on their relationship, except for occasional updates on their conjugal Instagram account.
However in July 2016, Jason shocked everyone with IG posts announcing that he and Melai had separated.
Despite this, Melai vowed never to give up saving their marriage for the sake of family, especially their bundle of joy Mela.
After two months, Melai finally cleared things up in her interview with her Magandang Buhay co-hosts and friends Jolina Magdangal and Karla Estrada and disclosed that the “low pressure area” in their family had been replaced with ‘sunshine’ and another baby was on the way. Jason and Baby Mela surprisingly appeared on the program as well to show to the world that they’ve reconciled. On April 9, 2017, their second child Baby Stella, was born. Their family also recently bagged the P1 million jackpot in the gameshow Bet On Your Baby.
MelaSon only proves that relationships are not always filled with good tidings. Despite all the challenges that she and Jason faced, they chose to fight for their love and their growing family and did everything they can to save their marriage. Like what Melai said on Magandang Buhay: “Forever is a choice and I chose my forever,” referring to his husband.
