It’s Showtime’s Tawag ng Tanghalan Season 4 Grand Champion JM Yosures had a meaningful conversation with MMK host Charo Santos-Concio on this episode of MMK Kumustahan after his inspirational life story was featured in the Maalaala Mo Kaya episode, “Mikropono”, last May 22.
REVIEW: JC Alcantara gives faithful, endearing portrayal of TNT 4 champ JM Yosures in MMK “Mikropono”
The episode showed how challenging life was for JM and his family. One of the most heartbreaking phases in his life was when his mother discouraged him from reaching his dreams of becoming a successful music artist and to just focus instead on his studies. But JM knew in his heart that he really wanted. Even after he graduated and became successful in his line of work, he tried his luck in Tawag ng Tanghalan where he proved to everyone that he has what it takes to be a successful singer.
In his conversation with Charo, JM shared that being an industrial engineering major helped him in becoming more disciplined in setting his goals and he was able to apply that work ethic in all of his performances in TNT. However, he admitted that his creative side was repressed when he was already practicing his profession. Although he would take opportunities in joining open mic events, he knew that what would only fill his heart is his fulfillment of his passion which has always been music. He even changed jobs three times but at the end, he just realized he wasn’t fulfilled with what he was doing. And JM shared that when he was able to join the competition, he knew it was the joy of being able to do what he is truly passionate about and being able to have a positive impact on other people through singing. That’s what made him decide to continue his journey and emerged victorious as the TNT Season 3 grand winner.
He shared that some of his influences in music are OPM singers like Sarah Geronimo and Gary Valenciano. JM also expressed how grateful he is for being known as “The Voice of P-pop,” having sung an impressive, lauded version of SB19’s “Go Up.” He added how excited he is for P-pop to evolve more with him collaborating with other artists. “It takes time para malaman mo kung saan ka nararapat at marami kang pagdadaanang pagsubok para matunton mo kung saan ‘yung landas na dapat mong tahakin, pero kapag sinunod mo ‘yung puso mo, it’s all gonna be worth it,” JM said.
