Would you believe that the drama anthology series we’ve been fervently watching every Saturday night is already on its 28th year this 2019? Yes, you read that right. Maalaala Mo Kaya has been around for almost a decade now, having started on May 15, 1991 via the Romnick Sarmenta-starrer inaugural episode dubbed “Rubber Shoes”.
In the previous years, it has relentlessly brought us anecdotes sent in by our kababayans from all walks of life – either ordinary or famous celebrities and personalities – that truly etched indelible marks in our hearts and minds. This is through the impressive and award-winning performances of the actors, well-helmed narratives, as well as the emotions, lessons, and inspirations that would linger in us after every episode.
Thus, as a way of celebrating another momentous milestone of the longest drama anthology in Asia, ABS-CBN recently released the “Dear Ate Charo” music video, which pretty sums up the journey of the program, and even of its letter-senders and viewers in the past 28 years.
Far from the melodramatic vibe of its perennial theme song with the same title sang by Dulce (1991-2004) and then by Carol Banawa (2004-2018) that we have been hearing ever since its first airing, “Dear Ate Charo” is completely different as it is has upbeat tempo and catchy lines.
Published by Star Songs Inc. and produced by Jonathan Manalo, the song was a collaboration between Lolito Go and Libertine Amistoso (whose story was also featured on the show, with Maris Racal portraying her) and is sung by Kapamilya singer Juris.
In this one-and-half-minute video, we can see a montage of clips from the past episodes and of host Ms. Charo Santos-Concio’s heart-to-heart interviews with the letter senders. Watch it ‘til the end for you to see the ABS-CBN artists who joined the celebration by speaking their respective versions of “Dear Ate Charo”, which the host usually utter every time she commences each episode, and the wacky pose of our beloved lady boss at the end of this video!
May you have more anniversaries to celebrate, more stories to share, and more hearts and soul to touch through your uplifting tales on love and life, MMK!
