In celebration of the 28th anniversary of ABS-CBN’s drama anthology series Maalaala Mo Kaya, Joshua Garcia will star in the June 22 episode with the hashtag #MMKMedalofValor.
This is Joshua’s comeback to television since Ngayon at Kailanman, his last Primetime teleserye with Julia Barretto. Joshua’s last appearance in MMK was also with Julia Barretto back in February 2017 where they portrayed a couple who had to stay together and defy all the odds amid of sickness.
Joshua will portray the story of Ian Paquit, a soldier who died in the Zamboanga siege in 2013 in #MMKMedalofValor.
In this Kapamilya Chat interview, Joshua said that the story is about how a mother deals with the grief of losing and burying her son. He also shared that he dreamed of being a soldier once and so, getting to portray the role of a heroic man in uniform was a dream come true for him.
When asked about the challenges he faced, he said that the heat made it difficult for him to shoot some scenes. According to Joshua, he underwent training for the role on the set where he was taught how to handle and use guns properly. He shared that it was also hard to act alongside with seasoned actors such as Janice De Belen and Cris Villanueva.
The biggest lesson he learned from his character was that you shouldn’t let anything stop you from your dreams and aspirations. While the story taught him that some sacrifices must be made for one’s country and this made him realize that a mother’s love is unconditional.
Additionally, he said that the most challenging part in shooting for the episode was when he had to go inside a coffin for a scene and had to stay there until the scene finishes. He told the story of how he had a small electric fan inside for ventilation since the coffin was sealed shut.
The MMK episode starring Joshua Garcia will be shown tonight at 8:30 PM after Idol Philippines.
