In the MMK episode “Divet,” a very inspiring woman named Diana took a firm stand in her desire to reach her dreams.
Belonging to the Ibaloi Tribe in Benguet, Diana fought hard to take a stand against their ethnic tribe’s tradition: settling down by way of a fixed marriage.
In her one-on-one talk with MMK host Charo Santos-Concio, Diana shared their family’s situation when she was a little girl. Life was hard for them after her father passed away, forcing Diana’s mother to have her and her sisters on arranged marriages.
However, Diana knew that being in a fixed marriage, especially at a young age, would not make her succeed in life. She believed the key to a better future was completing her education, and thus she did everything to achieve that. And when she eventually found the love of her life, she still made every effort to be the best mother and the best wife she can be.
Now, Diana is enjoying the rewards of the grit and determination she exuded in facing life’s difficulties. When asked about what keeps her busy these days, Diana shared,
“Ngayon na nag-retire [na ako], I relax. I go to church to pray. I go to my grandchildren, to their houses to visit them.”
For women choosing to settle down with the man they truly love, the 80-year-old Diana gave this advice:
“If you [are to] get married, remember: do not change. If you love that man, don’t give up. Whatever hardship you have, pray to God and He will help you. You treat your children nice, so that he [your husband] will also follow.”
