RK Bagatsing’s Firsts

We all love sweet anecdotes about celebrity relationships and one thing we want to hear more of is how our favorite couples met. Luckily, in this episode of Kapamilya Chat, we got RK Bagatsing to spill the beans about his first time seeing Jane Oineza and more unforgettable ‘firsts’ via Kapamilya Chat Firsts Challenge.

RK was asked about his first time meeting Jane, with whom he went public last May 2021. He said they first saw each other at a pictorial for Precious Hearts Romances Presents Araw-Gabi in 2018. “Kasama ko ‘yung driver ko no’n, eh. Sabi  ng driver ko, ‘Sir, ganda n’un, o!’ Sabi ko, ‘Huy! Loko ka talaga.’” Since he was still a newcomer and Jane was making her teleserye comeback, RK was deeply shy at the time.

He gamely answered other love-related questions as well, saying he had his first girlfriend in high school and he pursued the girl through love letters. When he read the girl’s last few letters which he wasn’t able to reply to, he learned “break na pala kami doon sa pang-apat [na sulat].”

But instead of this puppy love, what he considers his first heartbreak is the series of rejections he got while entering showbiz. That’s why he relates to Park Bo Gum’s character as a struggling actor in “Record of Youth,” which is the first KDrama series he religiously watched. RK admitted he wasn’t a fan of KDramas until the pandemic. Now he understands why his friends like his former Be My Lady co-star Janice De Belen are extremely addicted to Korean shows.

“Noong nag-lockdown, and dami ko na rin natapos na Kdrama kasi ang galing nila gumawa, eh. You can’t deny ‘yung talent nila, not just the actors but the whole vision of each component doon sa palabas nila, directors, scoring, ‘yung script. So, I’m a big fan,” he said of Korean dramas.

His first overseas trip was to Thailand for a commercial shoot. His first onstage performance was a sexy dance number in ASAP Natin ‘To for the Wildflower promo with his co-stars Maja Salvador, Joseph Marco, and Vin Abrenica. He said it felt awkward dancing sensually on national television, “Ilang na ilang ako kasi ang suot ko lang was ‘yung suit pero wala akong panloob. Eh, hindi ako sanay. Another first, so hindi ko siya makalimutan.”

The first recipe he mastered in the kitchen is instant pancit canton, but he now levelled up to instant pancit canton ala tuna pasta. He spent his first talent fee to treat his family out. His parents are his first inspiration. After all, they are shaping him into a good man. He’s far from it but he’s trying to be.

Asked his first ‘artista’ splurge, RK shared that when he was still trying out in different auditions, he sold his car for his allowance. So, when he finally saved enough from his talent fee, the first thing he bought was a brand-new car.
