Joey Marquez Maru Delgado Kapamilya Chat

Before we watch veteran actor Joey Marquez and rising star Maru Delgado in the heartwarming Maalaala Mo Kaya feature on the viral taho vlogger, they tell us some insider details about the value of Gimmy Panis Conos’ life story in this Kapamilya Chat.

While the pandemic has been a tough challenge for everyone, Joey and Maru assure that you can find inspiration and lessons in MMK “Taho Vlogger” during such trying times.

Joey, who plays the taho vendor turned vlogger Gimmy, said that he has a deeper respect for people like Gimmy who work hard day-to-day on the streets. No matter how difficult the situation, they will find dignified ways to make ends meet.

From getting to know his character, he learned “Si Gimmy Panis Conos ang nagpapatunay na lahat ng araw may pag-asa, ‘di ka dapat mawawalan ng pag-asa sa mga kung ano man nararamdaman natin ngayon.”

Maru also gathered some profound realizations as he got to know his own character, Alex. Alex is the one that helped Tatay Gimmy improve his content and gain traction on vlogging online when he was starting his channel. “Regardless of the status natin sa buhay, kung gusto natin makatulong talaga, makakatulong tayo,” Maru said. Joey added that all the good we do and kindness we share will be given back to us in time.

As for some behind-the-scenes tidbits, Maru shared that unfolding his character wasn’t as challenging as doing the actual acting. Being a real life vlogger himself, he can relate to Alex well.

Joey, on the other hand, really wanted to give justice to the character and the story so it was important for him to do well in this MMK episode. Luckily, he and Maru had the guidance of Direk Jerome Pobocan to deliver the story remarkably.

As a young actor, Maru also admitted that he initially felt nervous after finding out that he would be working alongside award-winning actor Joey Marquez. He had met him before on It’s Showtime where Maru is a Hashtag member, but he still felt a bit pressured. It was maybe because he’s close friends with Joey’s son Vitto and has seen Joey as a father figure since.

Although after their time together in accomplishing the episode, Maru now feels comfortable with Joey. Joey’s approachable personality and constant jokes made it easier for Maru to connect with him. For actor-comedian Joey, he also makes it a point to establish good rapport with the people he works with, especially the younger generation. Despite being in the industry for so long, he values the importance of constantly learning from the youth because veterans don’t always know everything.

Joey even cites doing drama as something more difficult for him than comedy. His own growth as an actor goes to show that people can learn to do things they’re not always good at. He encourages others to do so as well. When an opportunity arises, learn about it so you can take advantage of it.

Looking at their own life stories, Maru said that he would love to act his own character if he were to have an MMK story about himself. Joey, being a natural joker, said he wanted to be portrayed by the dashing Enrique Gil, whom he worked with before on Forevermore. He added that Liza Soberano could also be Enrique’s partner in the story. To top off the fun, he imagined the title of his MMK episode to be “Sana bumalik muli… ang kabataan.”

Joey and Maru invite everyone to witness the inspiring story of Tatay Gimmy because as Joey shared, “Sa panahon ng kawalan, viral ang kanyang kabutihan.” Viewers can watch MMK Taho Vlogger this Saturday (September 18) at 8:30 PM on the Kapamilya Channel, iWantTFC, TFC, and A2Z.
