Janine is still over the moon four months after her launching as a new Kapamilya on ASAP Natin To. She has been so busy since. Everything feels surreal and just right. She is slowly ticking off names in her acting bucket list, including JM’s. Not sure if JM would still believe, but she swears she’s always dreamt of working with him. “’Pag may movie ako dati tapos tinanatanong kung sinong gusto kong makatrabaho, lagi kong binabanggit si JM. Sabi ko nga sa kanya, ‘Salamat ha kasi tinanggap mo ‘to.’” JM would only respond with a bashful smile.
The list also includes Jericho Rosales and Carlo Aquino and Kapamilya actresses like Angel Locsin and Liza Soberano. It seems Janine is having fun broadening her social circle and letting more Kapamilya stars in.
This year is also one of the busiest for JM, beginning with a series of guestings to promote Init sa Magdamag and now comes his MMK stint. The actor feels blessed, of course. But he knows all the things won’t come if not for God alone. That’s why he gives his best effort in every project as a way of giving back to God.
They went on to talk about the MMK “Love In Lockdown” episode. Janine, who grew up watching the drama anthology, said she felt nervous before the taping. She knows MMK has this drama-heavy reputation. It even gets more challenging when you know you’re portraying a character and story that really exist. But behind the pressure, she’s also thrilled and honored to be part of the show.
“Love In Lockdown” tells the story of workmates Zaldy (JM) and Jex (Janine). She constantly invites him on a date but each attempt ends up rejected as he is not impressed with her devil-may-care attitude. Zaldy leaves the company to work in a cruise ship. They got to reconnect years later after their bad break-ups. As Zaldy comes home, they decided to push through a planned trip to Baguio to unwind, only to get stuck with each other due to the sudden Luzon-wide lockdown.
Janine realized through their episode that love is sometimes just around the corner. You need not look far because, who knows, the right person might be someone you have known all along.
“Huwag kang masyadong tumingin sa malayo. Baka mayroong someone from your past at baka ngayon tama na ‘yung timing, so tingin-tingin ka lang sa paligid mo,” said the actress, who resonates with her character’s fear in falling in love after a bad breakup. She also felt that way at some point.
JM, on the other hand, said he can relate with his character’s willingness to wait for the right time to prove himself worthy of one’s love.
On keeping a relationship, JM’s key advice is to listen to and maintain respect for each other. Inspired by her lockdown realizations, Janine stressed the importance of communication between a couple, family, and friends.
Asked for their message to the letter-senders, Janine would commend Jex for prioritizing self-love ad self-growth before jumping into another relationship. “Happy ako na binigyan niya ‘yung sarili niya ng time para makapag-move on. May time kasi na nag-travel siya, happy siya being alone. I think mahalaga ‘yun para ‘pag dumating ‘yung tamang tao, kung mahal mo na ‘yung sarili mo, hindi ka na rin papayag na ‘yung partner mo hindi mabuti sa’yo.”
JM had a simple advice to Zaldy: “Huwag mo nang pakawalan si Jex!”
