Charlie Dizon and Jameson Blake share lessons about “love and adulting,” pressure and timelines

First paired in Star Cinema’s recent Christmas offering “Four Sisters Before the Wedding,” Charlie Dizon and Jameson Blake are reunited for a special Valentine episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya.

Titled “Love and Adulting,” it follows the love story of doctors Jobelle Fernandez and Gerard Santos whose relationship started when they were teenagers. Considering it a young love, the couple had to go through a slope of trials growing their relationship and at the same time moving into adulthood.

The episode tackles the ups and downs of young relationships laced with the challenges of goal-setting, making choices, and the pressure of building a future – individually and as a couple. It’s also about self-growth in the realm of love and romance.

Add to that having personal differences. Gerard is the romantic type, the kind of guy who never runs out of surprises. Jobelle, on the other hand, hates spur-of-the-moment decisions. She’s goal-focused, a scholar determined to achieve things based on a timeline.

Taking notes from this episode, the award-winning artists, now shipped by fans as CharSon, learned that healthy relationships require communication. Cliché as it may sound, but destiny also plays its part. Charlie mentioned that first love can last until forever because as the old aphorism goes, “Kung kayo, kayo talaga.”

Jameson added that viewers will learn to trust in love’s timing, “Sometimes, things happen when you least expect it. It’s all about how you mature as a person, self-growth as well, setting your priorities in life.”

While most relationships follow a similar path, we all have different seasons in life. On the pressure to be in a relationship, Jameson said, “We all have different timelines. Wala namang target or anything. Just let things flow. Take your time. Make sure nandu’n pa rin ‘yung priorities mo sa buhay.”

Charlie acknowledged that most women talk about timelines, considering the biological clock. But she thinks relationships aren’t solely based on numbers. People have different priorities. “For me, depende ‘yan sa goal ng tao. What if ‘yung tao, hindi naman ready mag-pamilya or hindi ‘yun ang mission niya in this life? Hindi dapat magpadala sa pressure kasi iba-iba naman ang timeline ng tao. Iba-iba ang events na nangyayri sa buhay natin.” Charlie adds that we must learn to respect other people’s choices.

The newest tandem feels honored to act in one of the four Valentine episodes of Maalaala Mo Kaya. They hope viewers will enjoy as they did filming in a lock-in bubble. There was a climactic event in the story that they wanted to appear grand and special but it kept on raining that day. And that’s exactly what makes it memorable – pulling off the scene despite the disastrous weather.

While the 12-hour working period is a blessing on the most part, it can also add pressure especially when you’re the last actor to be filmed. Charlie revealed an instance where she had to do a crying scene three minutes before pack-up, “Magmamadali ka na rin umarte para matapos na. Last three minutes tapos iyakan ‘yung eksena! Sabi ko, ‘Ready na po ako.’ Tayo agad ako, eh. Kasi umuulan din, so ‘pag di pa nakunan, sayang talaga.” That’s the skill of an award-winning actress coupled with effective supervision from Director Nuel Naval.

CharSon assured that this episode, although about love and relationship, will not embitter those who are single. It would instead make them believe in true love again, “Kapag napanood nila ‘to, makikita nila na kahit gaano kadami ‘yung challenges, ‘pag napag-uusapan talaga, maaayos at maaayos naman.” Jameson added that “Love and Adulting” will serve viewers hope and inspiration.
