REVIEW: Charlie, Jameson shine with solid, stirring take of an imperfect yet genuine love in MMK “Planner”
After teaming up in Star Cinema’s digital blockbuster “Four Sisters Before the Wedding,” 2020 Metro Manila Film Festival Best Actress Charlie Dizon and Kapamilya heartthrob Jameson Blake reunited in this MMK episode portraying roles of high school sweethearts, now licensed physicians Jobelle Fernandez and Gerard Santos. This episode titled “Love and Adulting” gave not only kilig vibes but also mature decisions and choices made by both Jobelle and Gerard as they fight for their relationship while reaching for their goals.
Jobelle and Gerard, who are serving as doctors in Zamboanga, are about to tie the knot soon. But before they achieved all the success, they encountered a lot of struggles and challenges individually and as a couple since they were teenagers. They started out as high school sweethearts setting their goal to become accomplished physicians. They dreamed together to be the best version of themselves to achieve their aspirations. Even though Jobelle and Gerard had differences with their personalities—Gerard being a carefree guy who comes from a well-off family and Jobelle being that smart and responsible student from a middle-income clan, they still found reasons to appreciate and love each other. Certainly, they were each other’s first love. And their love story continued as they went to college.
However, it was also during this time that their relationship was put to the test. They both took nursing as their pre-med course. The differences between their personalities manifested during this time. Jobelle concentrated more in achieving her planned goals and continued to be the diligent student that she has always been. She never lost her focus on her studies to the point that Gerard felt like she wasn’t giving enough time for their relationship. Gerard, on the other hand became relaxed and complacent with his life that he even turned his attention to another girl. But if you are really fated to be together, destiny will find a way. And in Jobelle and Gerard’s case, they both chose to work things out because in the end, they chose to be with each other. Gerard realized his mistakes and shortcomings, and decided to make up for it. He promised Jobelle that he would work on himself while working on their relationship.
Jobelle and Gerard may have struggled in building the life they want for themselves because of what seemed to be an unending journey of trials and challenges, but at the end, they chose to love - and that’s what brought their dreams together in creating the successful life that they have now.
