Kiko Estrada describes his ‘dream bride’

Kiko Estrada previously didn’t believe in long-distance love but now he does after filming Maalaala Mo Kaya’s next offering, “My Dream Groom.

In the story, he plays Ralph and is paired with award-winning actress Charlie Dizon, who’s donning the role of Raquel. The couple met online and proved their love strong even amid the pandemic and distance. Thanks to his role, Kiko realized that LDRs can thrive with God and love at the center.

“For me, I don’t believe in long-distance relationships. That’s just for me, personally, parang it’s going to be hard to make it work. But after doing this episode, natutunan ko is walang kwenta ‘yung ibang problema ‘pag nilagay mo lang ‘yung pagmamahal sa Diyos. Trust, it would always beat anything,” he shared.

The Kapamilya actor hopes viewers, especially those who are experiencing long-distance relationships, would take inspiration from the episode. Asked for his advice, he said, “Alam kong sobrang hirap n’yan. I personally don’t want to have that. Pero if you are in one, my advice is to make God the center of your relationship, trust each other, and you have to do whatever it takes to make your significant other happy.”

As for his portrayal, Kiko, based on Director Froy Allan Leonardo’s pointers as well, aimed to highlight Ralph’s qualities as the ideal man. “Itong character natin, si Ralph, grabe mag-effort. Nakaka-relate naman ako sa kanya pero itong si Ralph, parang over the top. Kumbaga, times ten ng lahat ng effort na magagawa mo. So, Direk Froy Allan, we both wanted to show our Kapamilya viewers na this guy is the ideal guy, the best guy, the dream groom. We wanted to show na this guy is very admirable,” he admitted that it added pressure.

“May dialogue si Ralph na in-admit niya sa sarili niya na hindi pa siya karapat-dapat. For him to say that, wow, binabaan niya ‘yung ego niya. Dito ako na-hook sa kanya, ‘Huwag kang mag-alala, bebe, gagawin ko lahat para maging karapat-dapat sa’yo.’ Imagine that. Binabaan niya ‘yung ego niya tapos he promised himself and the love of his life that he’ll be better,” he further shared of his character.

Kiko was last seen on TV via afternoon soap Bagong Umaga. He said this comeback via MMK made him feel rejuvenated and inspired to act more. His first preparation was to study the script so it’d be easier to execute all other technicalities such as acting in front of a mobile phone since the characters communicate virtually.

“May isang shot na nakahawak kami sa lens. Tapos may isang shot na nasa likod ‘yung camera, hawak namin ‘yung phone. We have to do multiple takes to get the scene. But of course, it was done well at inalagaan talaga kami,” he credits the whole creative team and cast for perfecting the episode.

On being paired with Charlie, he said the Kapamilya actress is bubbly and easy to work with. All she had to do was crack a joke to break the ice between them. “It was very fun and easy. Lahat ng eksena namin not premeditated. Kumbaga, naturally lang nangyari. Like I said sa past interviews, hard things became easy. That’s the best thing you could ask for,” he shared.

Still keeping with the story’s theme, Kiko was asked the qualities of his “dream bride.” For him, she must be a “ride or die” or someone willing to stick around in any situation.

“Parang ‘pag sumakay siya sa kotse, hindi na siya lalabas. Kahit bumpy road, up or down, she will stay there and accept all your flaws and help you be better. She will be honest. Hindi ka bine-baby, or sometimes maybe. But someone who loves you unconditionally… faithfully, through thick and thin,” he opened up.

Catch Kiko and Charlie’s first team-up in MMK “My Dream Groom,” this Saturday, April 21, at 8:30pm, on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live,, and A2Z.
