A week before exchanging “I dos” inside the Pinoy Big Brother house and letting the whole world witness their relentlessly blooming unconditional love for one another, the inspiring love story of PBB Otso transgender housemate Mitch Talao and his lesbian partner Dudz Ibañez was featured on Maalaala Mo Kaya last January 26, 2018.
Tagged as #MMKRainbowLove and was titled “Pregnancy Test”, the episode followed the uplifting story of Dudz since childhood and her stirring affair with Mitch from the moment they first met up to now that they are already doting parents to their firstborn Baby Eros. The actors who portrayed them – Ahron Villena and Ritz Azul, respectively – did a great job in fluttering and wrenching our hearts with their compelling performances and showing us the struggles and challenges the couple had to conquer in order to achieve the beautiful family they have at the present.
At the end of the episode, Dudz had a one-on-one conversation with the perpetual host Ms. Charo Santos-Concio, in which she reminisced how their romance began. It was a case of “love at first sight” as she recalled immediately getting smitten by him from the moment she laid her eyes on him while he was onstage during a barangay gay pageant. Since then, she persistently pursued him for two months by doing the typical way of courtship – always visiting him and bringing flowers and his favorite food.
When asked if they did not feel fear when they planned to have their own child, Dudz told the host that she’s been used to the snide remarks from other people ever since she came out, so those negative comments mean nothing to them anymore. Thus, once Baby Eros got a little older, they will nurture him to have an open mind and broad understanding and to shower him with love in order to cover or protect him from all the negativities of life.
Ms. Charo didn’t let the moment simply slip without asking him regarding his message for her spouse Mitch, her mom, who used to not accept her gender preference, and to their beloved unico hijo.
Dudz also relayed her encouraging message to all members of the LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual) Community, saying, “Siguro darating din ‘yong time na magkakaroon din ng equality sa amin; ‘di na kami huhusgahan. Magmahahal lang sila. Laban lang.”
Their story only proves that love indeed knows no boundary, as well as parenthood knows no gender, as long as you have a good and passionate heart.
