Majoy, Celine & Bea starstruck and happy to be working with Kim Chiu for MMK “Pangako ng Pasko”

The true essence of the Filipino Christmas spirit is the love for family. We associate the holidays with the joy and promise of togetherness, pulling us back home to the people who hold our hearts. For Maalaala Mo Kaya’s next offering, the longest-running drama anthology tells the story of five siblings distanced for years due to circumstances but finally home with each other one Christmas.

Kim Chiu, playing the eldest sister, is joined by young stars Majoy Apostol, Celine Lim, Anthony Jennings, and Bea Clark.

Orphaned as kids, Krystin (Kim Chiu) took on the role of a breadwinner to her siblings who were forced to live under the care of different relatives. The promise of reuniting her family came with struggles and sacrifices but Krystin didn’t lose the hope and desire to one day make this happen.

Anthony plays Paul and Celine as Melissa, the ‘duo’ among the siblings. But unfortunate circumstances will happen and separate even the two of them, all the more growing ill feelings in Melissa’s heart and turning her into a black sheep.

Majoy is Mae, the bubbly sibling who never runs out of positivity despite her internal battles and pain. Bea portrays Sunshine, the youngest and the only one who grew up with Krystin.

The cast says they can relate to their roles in some ways. Celine finds Melissa’s attitude a normal facet of human emotions. Majoy, just like her character, is also a bubbly girl in life. Bea is also the youngest at home but she isn’t as quiet as Sunshine, and her co-stars agree.

Working with the Chinita Princess has been a memorable experience for these young Kapamilyas. Celine used to just play young Kim in the teleseryes Sana Maulit Muli and Tayong Dalawa, and now that she is portraying her onscreen sister and no longer just a mini Kim, Celine feels so old. While she is not that active in showbiz anymore, a call from MMK always pulls her back to acting. Despite the protocols, the lock-in taping went smoothly, also thanks to her caring roommate, Majoy.

Majoy worked with Kim for the series Ikaw Lamang in 2014. So, this MMK episode serves as their reunion and she saw that nothing has changed in Kim. The superstar remains gorgeous, down-to-earth, and a team player. Bea is also happy to be working with her idol.

The stars of MMK “Pangako ng Pasko” urges viewers to watch the episode that will spark hope and remind them of the true meaning of love and sacrifice.

“Kahit magkalayo kayo, kahit hindi kayo nagkikita physically. Pero ‘pag mahal mo ang isang tao, gagawin mo lahat, isa-sacrifice mo ‘yung happiness mo,” says Majoy.

As a frontline worker, Celine saw how families long for distanced members. Just imagine the longing and pain among the siblings separated for years. “If you have the chance, don’t take it for granted. Take it as an advantage na kasama mo ‘yung pamilya mo. Kung may problema kayo, take your time, try to communicate. Sa panahon ngayon, sa 2020, may naglo-long pa rin sa physical na pagkikita. Always listen, try na natin ibaba ‘yung pride natin,” she adds.

For Bea, sacrifice is a form of true love, and family the essence of Christmas. The three young actresses underscore that family is always our home.

Speaking of Christmas, Majoy will celebrate with her family in the simplest way at home due to safety protocols. To commemorate the birth of Jesus, Celine and her family will eat, reflect, pray, and just spend time together, taking a break from their work obligations. Bea’s family used to spend the holidays outdoors but, of course, they’re prompted to just stay home this year.

For them, the quarantine protocols and the stay-at-home phase that come with it is no excuse to slack off. Celine works in the frontline as a food technologist while Bea continues her online schooling. Majoy has been busy with taping for Walang Hanggang Paalam under the new normal and she helps her parents in their online business.

While they aren’t immune to overthinking amid these trying times, the girls manage to overcome the anxieties by finding techniques that work best for them. Celine loves to reflect and she used her free time to validate her feelings than overthink in confusion. She adds that talking with family and friends and especially to professionals is a big help in prioritizing mental health care.

Meanwhile, food is Bea’s ultimate stress-reliever, as well as talking with her mom and sister. Majoy realized that she only has herself to look after her own safety, especially in the lock-in taping. She also agrees with Celine about the benefits of taking social media breaks.

Maalaala Mo Kaya “Pangako ng Pasko” also features Karla Pambid, Nor Domingo, and Zeppi Borromeo, headlined by Kim Chiu.
