Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK) will air new episodes that will certainly touch and inspire viewers with messages of hope, heroism and persistence. As such, it is quite fitting for MMK to feature the gallantry and selflessness of a devoted cardiologist, whose dedication to his mission was heartfelt and true, and heartbreakingly led to his losing his life in the initial onslaught of the COVID-19 scourge.
He is Dr. Israel “El” Bactol from Peñaranda, Nueva Ecija, who will be portrayed by top caliber actor Arjo Atayde in a two-part comeback special of MMK, with the episode hashtag #MMKDoctorFree, starting on Saturday, November 28. Co-starring with Arjo is his mom, remarkable actress Sylvia Sanchez, who will play Dr. El’s mother Celestina, and rising star Jane de Leon, who will take on the role of Dr. El’s girlfriend, Dr. Lerma Iglesia.
As a prelude to this highly anticipated MMK episode, Arjo and Jane guested on Hotspot with DJ Jhai Ho to share how they felt about being part of MMK’s first new episode in eight months, their roles in depicting such an honorable tale, and the opportunity to work with each other, before taking on the “Never Have I Ever” challenge.
Jane said she feels overwhelmed with the trust given to her in being part of this special episode, adding that she didn’t expect she was going to work with such highly regarded thespians as Arjo and Sylvia. Arjo, on the other hand, said that he feels very blessed and happy to have been given the chance work onscreen again after months of downtime since the pandemic started, and the opportunity work with promising artists such as Jane. Given that this was their first time working together, both were amazed at each other’s acting skills and professionalism.
With the new normal setup, Jane admitted that she felt like she was acting for the first time again. It seemed the craft was new to her, she reiterated. The same goes for Arjo, who said he is trying to get his rhythm back in acting and deal with adjustments when it comes to safety protocols.
Playing the “Never Have I Ever” Challenge, Arjo and Jane were asked if they ever sent a drunk text to someone and both said no. Jane said she doesn’t drink while Arjo said he doesn’t get to hold his phone anymore when he’s drunk. They also shared they have never ghosted someone. But they admitted they have farted inside the elevator, peed inside the pool, eaten food that fell on the floor. As for their embarrassing moments in public, Jane said she can’t remember one but Arjo shared that there was one time he mistakenly pulled the hair of someone he thought was his friend. Talking about romance, Arjo said he has fallen in love at first sight while Jane said she has yet to experience it. They also shared they have never said ‘I love you’ to someone without meaning it.
Don’t miss the two-part special MMK comeback episode, #MMKDoctorFree, on November 28 and December 5 on the Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, and A2Z Channel 11.
