Watching how Dimples Romana managed to make her star shine brighter over the years, it’s worth noting how humility and professionalism became her biggest career weapons. She knows how to wait for her turn, thus from soft-spoken best friend, she rose to becoming one of the industry’s finest actresses.
In this game for Kapamilya Chat, the beloved Kapamilya actress, and face of pop culture itself, took a sweet travel down memory lane. To win in this challenge, Dimples aimed to answer questions related to her past teleseryes.
She had a disclaimer: “Naka-dalawang epidural na ako na anaesthesia ha, so baka hindi ko na maalala talaga pero susubukan ko, promise!” Let’s see how she fared in this game.
The first question was about her character in Esperanza. Then-12-year-old Dimples played Paola. It was her first kontrabida role.
Next, she’s asked to recall the part of the house where Gloria (Sylvia Sanchez) showed warning signs of dementia in the afternoon soap The Greatest Love. The answer is “dining area,” which for some reason is Amanda’s (Dimple’s character) favorite war zone. “Ang Alegre family, ‘pag gustong magsimula ni Amanda ng away talagang lagi ‘pag kumakain. Itong si Amanda rin, walang respeto sa pagkain, eh,” she quipped.
Dimples talked about the relationship they’ve grown on the set of The Greatest Love. She also had wonderful stories about Joshua Garcia’s outstanding acting chops, saying, “Everytime we have a scene together, I will always feel so afraid because kahit bata pa siyang artista nu’n, sobrang husay na niya. Si Joshua, kaya niyang umiyak at maging emotional coming from waking up, as in bagong gising siya kaya na niyang magpaluha at maantig ang puso mo. He’s really a natural.”
Another trivia: Dimples loves to watch zombie movies before taking on drama heavy scenes. She said it relaxes her mood.
In the trailer for Kadenang Ginto’s third season, Dimples is seen playing chess with onscreen nemesis Beauty Gonzales. She didn’t know how to play the sports, so her dilemma then was whether to learn the basic moves or just fake it. She misses her Kadenang Ginto co-stars and even to this day, she’s still amazed by the series’ massive success. It was a life-changing teleserye for everyone involved in the show. It’s been a pop culture staple, so much so people still call her ‘Dani Girl’ to this day.
Fun fact: The endearment ‘Dani girl’ wasn’t written in the script. It was just an adlib from Kim Molina herself playing Daniela’s sidekick, Savannah. Dimples added that she loves seeing fans dress up like Daniela during special occasion, and she loves the memes, too!
The next question was about her character name in the 2013 drama Little Champ. She portrayed Kara Marquez. The actress revealed that she had to undergo equestrian training – rain or shine – for her role, thus she considers Little Champ as one of the teleseryes that pushed her out of her comfort zone. She used to fear riding horse prior to their taping.
In 2016, Dimples breathed life to the story of Vice President Leni Robredo for an episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya. She revealed that VP Leni sent her flowers after the episode’s airing.
Another memorable MMK episode for her was “Relo” which she topbilled with Zanjoe Marudo. She got a Best Actress award for her performance in the said episode. For Dimples, an MMK guesting already equates to a validation. But to be recognized by an award-winning body takes the honor much, much higher.
As an actress, she isn’t the type to crave for awards or recognition. After all, she believes that such achievements entail perfect timing and just working with a brilliant actor like Zanjoe is more than enough to fill her heart with gratitude.
Sharing the greatest lesson she learned from MMK “Relo,” Dimples said, “It reminded me to cherish the small things in life, na ang mga bagay na meron tayo ay temporary lang pero ang maaalala mo sa mga moments na nangyayari sa buhay mo ay ‘yung maliliit na bagay, mga moments na hindi mo ine-expect na makakapagpuno ng puso mo.”
For the series Pasion De Amor, Dimples portrayed the younger version of Pilar Pilapil’s character. To be the counterpart of such a gorgeous, iconic actress brought her pressure to look flawlessly beautiful. “Kailangan lahat ng pampaganda gawin ko kasi ang gorgeous ni Tita Pilar and I always love working with her. I worked with her as well in Lobo.”
Lastly, Dimples was dared to recite her iconic chant in Bagani. She mentioned that people often ask her if it was scripted or just made on the spot. Dimples revealed that it was written in the script. In fact, she rarely inserts adlibs as respect to her show’s writers.
“I feel like our writers are there for a reason. They put a lot of their good work and emotion as well when they’re writing those. And I want na pag pinanood nila, maaalala nila na ito ‘yung pagkakasulat nila sa kanilang masterpiece.”
