They may not have secured a spot yet in show business, but aspiring Star Hunt dreamers Mary Grace Abrugar and Rhovinez Manaloto already touched the hearts of the viewers through their inspiring story of love and resilience featured in the episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya titled “Pilat” last May 19.
The start of their relationship was pretty rough, considering their personalities and perspectives.
Just like any diligent student and child, Grace, played by Kira Balinger, was goal-driven and shooed all her admirers away for she wanted to focus with her studies and part-time jobs as a student assistant, freelance model, and beauty queen.
Contrarily, Vhinez, portrayed by Yves Flores, was the ultimate loverboy type who’s willing to give up the opportunities handed to him just to be with the girl he admires. But like his girlfriend, he also does everything in order to help his family by being a varsity player and part-time model.
The former might be indignant at first, but the latter’s consistent and kilig efforts melted her heart and finally accepted his unwavering love. However, a mishap suddenly put their romance into a probable halt.
Being pageant contenders at their school and working as freelance models, the scars plastered on their faces added fuel to the fire, aside from the trauma, depression, and physical pains they got from the car accident.
It took a huge toll on him since his was situated on her lower right cheek, making him insecure and helpless. Thus, he tried to take his own life through hanging, which fortunately did not happen, thanks to Grace’s immediate action and comforting words.
On the other hand, she was able to hide the huge streaks on her forehead through the fringes styled by their mentor/stylist (Fifth Pagotan), which brought back her confidence.
Although Grace’s domineering mom used to hinder their relationship, scolding her that Vhinez’s recklessness would only ruin her life, she fought and reminded her shortcomings as a mother which he fulfilled.
In the end, her mom warmly welcomed him at their abode and wholeheartedly accepted whatever they have.
Now, they’re both successful young professionals in their chosen fields and still do modelling. They also celebrated their fourth year anniversary as a couple last April 22.
Way to go, Vhinez and Grace!
