Rarely do we see such a profound, genuine, and touching love story wherein we realize that indeed, fairy tales do come true.
Bernadette “Badeth” Castillo-Berth sent her moving tale to MMK, which immediately narrated it with its hit “Lotion” episode on February 23, with award winning young actress Mary Joy Apostol portraying her.

Growing up with Crouzon syndrome that deformed her face, Badeth thought she was unaccepted, unloved, and ultimately rejected by society because of her looks. And as she bore a daughter named Shauna from a relationship with a man who had since evaded her, Badeth thought the “curse” would eventually end, only to find out that her child inherited the illness too—facing the same ridicule and sneering she had experienced.
But while the depth of their love for each other as mother and daughter made them overcome such suffering, an unexpected blessing came into their lives. After joining a chat group, Badeth met a German bachelor named Alexander Berth, who saw beyond her physical features and appreciated her kindheartedness and pristine nature from within.
After having been in close communication in the chat group for a while, Alexander eventually met Shauna and immediately told the child that he “loved” her as a “daughter.” And after having said that, he would ask Badeth if they could take their relationship to the next level. Surprised, Badeth answered by saying that Alex must come to the Philippines to prove his love. He said he would.
It wasn’t long before Alex fulfilled his promise of visiting the Philippines, and seeing Badeth in person made him even feel more enthralled about her. She was indeed the girl of his dreams.
Badeth would ask him, why would he even consider her given her imperfections and frailties. Alex would then answer the same remark her father gave her when she was young—that her beauty as a person was glowing inside of her, and that is all that matters.
Alex would then return in one magical moment, popping the question in front of a multitude of people asking her hand in marriage. Badeth said yes, and they would soon walk down the aisle and become a happy family.
Indeed, love is blind—blind of all the flaws or defects we might have as a person and only see the pureness and genuineness of heart.

Our best wishes to the beautiful Berth family.
