Last year, the multi-awarded comedian/actress Pokwang has portrayed two remarkable mother roles in Maalaala Mo Kaya. She starred with Empress Schuck in the MMK episode “Eskoba” which was aired in May 2018 and with Zaijan Jaranilla in “Orasan” last October.
In MMK’s “Eskoba”, Pokwang portrayed the role of Tet’s (Empress Schuck) mother named Corazon/Azon, who sacrificed and strongly faced all the hardships of being an OFW in Italy to provide the needs of her family. This was MMK’s special episode in celebration of Mother’s Day last year.
Meanwhile, in MMK’s “Orasan”, Pokwang played Fe, the mother of Jarel Tadio (Zaijan Jaranilla), a “proud kasambahay” who graduated college as a Magna Cum Laude. It was Fe who inspired Jarel to work hard and persevere in life.
Now, Pokwang astounded us once more with her gripping dramatic performance as the independent-minded and passionate Ibaloi woman named Diana. Her portrayal on the MMK episode “Divet” with the official hashtag #MMKBetterTomorrow last May 25 truly inspired women to stand up for themselves.

In this gallery, we see how Pokwang prepared for her role as Diana. She and the show’s production team traveled to Baguio, where the Ibaloi Tribe resides, to shoot for the said MMK episode. These snaps show how Pokwang and the other cast members immersed themselves in Ibaloi culture, like their traditional wardrobe, wedding rituals and agricultural work, which is mainly their source of food. We also can witness how the entire production impressively crafted the episode, and how the actors shared some fun, bonding moments on the set.
