It was completely another night filled with tears and oozing with inspiration as Maalaala Mo Kaya once again delivered another tear-jerking and stirring anecdote that arguably left indelible marks in our hearts and minds last Saturday, January 12, for its opening salvo this 2019.
The “Journal” episode, which starred two of the bankable teen stars of this generation Barbie Imperial and Paulo Angeles, featured the idyllic and inspiring romance of young lovers Hennesy Olivas and Allanis Book whose relationship was tested when she was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease and later on succumbed to it.
Watching it was both delightful and heart-rending as it brought us to the probably most exciting and kilig part of their romance – how their romance developed from being mere classmates in college up to becoming inseparable lovers after they graduated. And this led to the most heartbreaking portion wherein they bravely battled her life-threatening disease hand-in-hand at the same time that they pursue their ambitions together, but her body gave up eventually.
As the scenes gradually went dramatic and heavy as the story approaches the end, the scenarios behind the camera were somehow the same as the actors had to imbibe their respective characters and exude the emotions required for them to effectively convey the essence of the story to the audiences. Some
of the actors might have had a hard time portraying their roles, but director Theodore Boborol guided and motivated them well to elicit astounding performances in intense dramatic scenes.
But in between takes, the mood got apparently lighter as the actors and the letter sender Hennesy and Allanis’ family mingle with each other by sparking short conversations and taking photos together, as seen on the photos included in this gallery.
Moreover, we can also perceive the unmistakable chemistry between Barbie and Paulo with how they get along with one another on the set and in every time we see them together on-screen. Perfect picks, indeed!
A job well done to those people behind this another promising masterpiece for our favorite drama anthology every Saturday night, MMK!
