Enchong relives working with Liza for MMK, shares “Love from Home” experience & teaches how to make guacamole

Before LizQuen was born, the other half of the famous love team, Liza Soberano, once appeared in Maalaala Mo Kaya as a leading lady to Enchong Dee in the “Orasan” episode in 2014. The dramatic piece is having a replay this Saturday, July 25 on Kapamilya Channel.

It follows the story of a man who moved heaven and earth to pursue a girl he thought was out of his league. MMK “Orasan” will remind viewers that true love coupled with tenacity makes all things possible. “Minsan talaga ‘pag pursigido ka tapos gustong-gusto mo talaga ‘yung isang tao, talagang gagawan mo ng paraan,” shared Enchong.

Enchong vividly remembers how Liza was as a newbie. She was beautiful, of course, yet easily fazed by online bashing. The young actress was once a third wheel to Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, thus being the target of hate comments from fans.

Enchong revealed that the hurtful remarks almost destroyed Liza’s courage. She opened up to him, wondering why she was being hated for just trying to do her job as an actress. The negativities almost made Liza believe she doesn’t have a place in the industry. So, he told her, “Okay lang ‘yan. Maghintay ka lang. Kapag nakahanap ka ng ka-loveteam mo, ‘yung talagang kayong dalawa, lahat ng bashers mo magiging fans mo sila isa isa.”

Just like a prophesy, Enchong’s words came to life. And he couldn’t get any prouder of what Liza has become – more gorgeous, more confident, the big star that she’s always meant to be. “Minsan ‘yung tadhana nakaukit talaga sa isang tao. Kapag hindi ka sumuko at hinintay mo talaga ‘yung oras mo, darating at darating ‘yun. Hindi mo kailangang ipilit o gumawa ng eksena. Bawat tao may kanya-kanyang oras,” expressed Enchong.

He added that there is purpose to every second of waiting and all hardships encountered along the way. These never go to waste and, as a matter of fact, turn into weapons.

Looking back on that season, you might wonder what could’ve happened if Enchong and Liza pushed through as an official love team. But the Kapamilya actor said the idea did not even cross his mind. As an artist, he prefers to stand on his own than work with a constant partner. Enchong believes that there are more ways to secure his spot in the business than just by keeping his chemistry with another actress. He takes down notes from the career paths of veteran actors like Richard Gomez and Christopher de Leon who still get to be paired with younger artists after being able to maintain their looks and a ‘clean’ reputation.

As an actor, Enchong would admit that there are bad days. “Minsan tuyo talaga, kahit anong emosyon ang ilabas mo hindi talaga siya nagma-manifest sa mata o sa screen.” He experienced such on the set of MMK. Enchong shared that Liza’s presence helped him deliver the required emotions. It helped that she was patient all throughout.

Enchong hopes MMK doesn’t stop treating viewers to excellent and inspiring stories like their “Orasan” episode. He added the episode will bring viewers an exciting hint of nostalgia, ‘kilig,’ and major throwback ‘feels’ of his and Liza’s artistry six years ago.

Love from Home

True to its legacy of inspiring people, Star Magic launched the “Love from Home” digital catalogue to raise funds for the ABS-CBN Pantawid ng Pag-Ibig program. In this time of a pandemic, love becomes the most powerful string that binds us all – artists, fans, every Filipino – together. And this is what “Love from Home” aims to showcase, that the love we extend from our abode during the lockdown can travel far and touch other lives.

We often see celebrities in the small and big screens. But this time, through the “Love from Home” special lockdown portraits, we get a sneak peek of their lives off-cam. The Kapamilya stars were given the freedom to explore their creativity by producing a series of portraits all by their own, without the glam team and production crew they used to work with during pictorials. So, it’s been a challenging and fun learning experience.

Enchong did not put too much drama to his entries. He said he wanted to keep the photos as authentic as possible. For him, he was giving the fans a piece of his personal life, thus the candid and comfortable-looking aesthetics. “If I’m going to take a photo of myself dito sa bahay, kung saan ako usually nagha-hang out, which is my room and at the balcony sa second floor kasi gustong-gusto ko doon kapag nagpapaaraw.”

Enchong asked his brother to act as the photographer. He thinks they’re able to capture the essence of what “Love from Home” is all about. “The sole purpose is to show kung anuman ‘yung meron tayo sa bahay and the way we make use of everything. Also ‘yung pino-promote natin which is staying at home at kung ano ‘yung ginagawa mo sa labas, pwede mo rin gawin sa bahay.”

Guacamole Recipe

We have known Enchong as a jack of all trades. Besides being an excellent actor, he’s also an athlete, vlogger, performer, restaurateur, and so much more. This time, the multitalented Kapamilya is taking us to his kitchen to showcase his kitchen skills and demonstrate a special avocado recipe called guacamole.

This Mexican side dish is an avocado-based dip that’s perfect for breakfast or midnight cravings. It’s like a salsa but made of avocados. Enchong likes it best as sandwich spread.

The ingredients aside from the avocadoes are all just seated inside the pantry, so it’s very cheap and easy to make. All you need are:

1 ripe avocado

garlic

onion

salt and pepper

olive oil

lemon

truffle oil (optional)

Enchong scooped and mashed the avocado flesh. Then, he added the chopped garlic and onion, followed by salt and freshly ground pepper to taste.

He added a little amount of truffle oil to give the guacamole a nice aroma. Enchong also mixed 1 tbsp of olive oil, or you may tweak the measurement depending on your desired texture. Drizzle with freshly squeezed lemon juice. Mix all the ingredients well. Voila! Enjoy your homemade guacamole as a dip, spread, side dish, topping, dressing or whatever you fancy.
