The finale of Los Bastardos is drawing closer and closer. For sure, viewers will miss the afternoon teleserye for many reasons, one of which is the fierce female characters. Even during intense fight scenes, the women equal the men in strength and cunning. So, how are they feeling as the story reaches its conclusion? In this interview, Kylie Verzosa, Maxine Medina, Ritz Azul, Mary Joy Apostol and Mica Javier are all sharing their favorite scenes and what they have learned throughout the show’s run.
Most memorable moments
“Lahat kinarga niya tapos tinapon niya kay Isay,” Kylie recounted the mud fight. It took them four hours to shoot the confrontation and the entire time Kylie never broke character. “Ako kasi kapag matataas na eksena, ayaw ko na binibitawan ko ‘yung emosyon,” she explained. During breaks, she could not relax. No one would dare talk to her. This was her way of properly embodying Dulce’s rage at the time.
A highlight for Maxine was when Isay and Isagani (Jake Cuenca) fought side by side. It mirrored a scene from the pilot episode which featured the young Don Roman (Geoff Eigenmann) and the young Soledad (Cristine Reyes). They purposely rehearsed the same movements.
Ritz remembered the moment they found out that Joaquin’s (Diego Loyzaga) plane had exploded. Almost the entire cast was present to watch the news. Everyone was in tears, except Don Roman (Ronaldo Valdez). Yet, the grief was heaviest for him. “Sa kanya ka maiiyak,” she praised the veteran’s impressive performance.
“Dahil doon sa eksenang ‘yun, nag-20.3% ‘yung ratings namin,” Mica boasted the results of the scene when she was strapped to a bomb. All alone in the middle of Taal Lake and desperate to survive, she had to convey a mix of fear, longing and determination. It was one of her toughest moments and she could not be any happier with how it turned out.
For Mary Joy, everything between start to finish has been memorable. This is her first role in a teleserye, and she is simply thankful for the opportunity. One of her favorites, however, was the car chase scene. Her body looked petite while on the driver seat of the van. Not to mention she was still learning how to drive in real life. So, she was unsure whether she can a good job.
Growth on and off set
Each of their characters had different paths to walk. Yet, there is no denying that this was an excellent learning experience for everyone. Kylie started off kindhearted. “Super good girl,” she described Dulce. Unfortunately, she ended up falling off the deep end after losing so much, “tuluyan na siyang naging masama.” It was this dynamic character that allowed her to explore a wide range of acting.
Maxine and Mary Joy learned many lessons from their co-stars. They were all more than willing to help out each other which made every scene a collaboration. This was also their chance to work with veterans in the industry. “Tumatagal ‘yung Los Bastardos kasi nga lahat kami na-portray namin lahat nung roles namin nang okay,” Maxine added.
On the other hand, Ritz feels that she grew more as a person. “Dahil dito lumabas din ‘yung tunay na ako,” she explained. Dianne lived a positive life, even when faced with seemingly impossible challenges. “Lalaban at lalaban siya,” she praised the Rockstar Secretary.
Aside from the cast, viewers at home can learn from Los Bastardos. The biggest lesson being the importance of family. Whatever happens in life, our loved ones are the ultimate support system. This is why there is never a good reason to give up.
Last words
“Naging family talaga kami sa set ng Los Bastardos,” Ritz shared. After almost one year of working together, they formed bonds that will continue even when the cameras stop rolling. And this was possible because of Kapamilyas. “Hindi po kami ganito katagal eere kung hindi po dahil sa inyo,” Kylie thanked on behalf of their whole team. “One year niyo kaming sinamahan sa journey namin. Walang sukuan hanggang sa katapusan,” Mica ended.
