The 31-year-old singer's stylist, Nonja McKenzie, has admitted that the rapper originally planned to wear sweatpants in the video for her new single 'Anaconda' but was "inspired" to sport just a pink G-String and trainers after admiring her curvaceous figure.
She told E! Online: "We initially gave her the g-string just to be an undergarment under the sweatpants.
"But when she saw her silhouette with her [Air] Jordans on, she got inspired and felt like that should be one of the looks, also. She thought it looked so quintessentially '80s."
The video - which also features the 'Superbass' hitmaker in a combination of high fashion pieces and yet more skimpy underwear - has a distinctly 80s sound and features a sample of Sir Mix-A-Lot's classic 1986 hit 'Baby Got Back'.
Jerod McClairn, another of Nicki's stylists, hopes the video's eye-catching retro looks will encourage fans to channel Nicki's new 80s-inspired style.
He told ET: "I hope fanny packs make their comeback! I had really wanted to use them for an additional pop of pink and to help tie the look together."
