4 reasons why you should watch Pentatonix live
You might have heard of a phenomenal American a cappella quintet called Pentatonix and how they took the US by storm with their live performances, YouTube videos and their recent win at the Grammys. Well, look no further. Pentatonix is coming to the Philippines for concerts at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on June 6, and at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino on June 7. Why should you watch Pentatonix perform live? Here are four reasons you should:

1) Incredible vocal talent Pentatonix started off with three friends, Kirstin “Kirstie” Maldonado, Mitch Grassi, and Scott Hoying, who were students at Martin High School in Arlington, Texas. They recorded this video in 2010 singing their version of Lady Gaga’s “Telephone.”

Why did they make the video? It was for a competition in school for a chance to meet the cast of Glee. They may have not won then, but people started to take notice of their talents.

2) Winning performances After Avriel “Avi” Kaplan and Kevin Olusola joined the group in 2011, the now-quintet auditioned and competed in the third season of NBC’s “The Sing Off,” where they won the title and officially started their musical journey as a group. Here’s a video of their winning performance.

3) Their extraordinary way of covering pop songs Being an a cappella group, they depend on their broad range of vocals. To get noticed in shows and online, they covered pop songs, giving them a fresh, mind-blowing refurbishing in terms of musical arrangement and vocal performance. Here are some of the acclaimed Pentatonix covers:

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ “Thrift Shop”

Ariana Grande’s “Problem”

Fun’s “We Are Young”

4) And, their being Grammy Award-winning artists But the most astounding cover they made was the medley of Daft Punk songs “One More Time,” “Get Lucky,” “Celebrate,” and “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger”, which earned them the Grammy Award for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella this year. Here’s the official video:

Yes, they are now Grammy Award-winning artists only five years after making that amateur cover video in high school. Phenomenal, indeed. Here’s a video of their Grammy Award acceptance speech:
