JC De Vera family on Erich Gonzales vlog

Her character Magda may not have crossed paths with his character in La Vida Lena yet, but fans know that Erich Gonzales also has an unmistakable chemistry with her another leading man, JC De Vera, who she worked for the first time with in the 2014 film “Once A Princess.”

And seven years after, she finally had the chance to chat with him again on a personal level through one of her vlogs that she uploaded early this year.

The interview commenced by asking him what he usually does during his time off from work and talking about how he loves his family so much, which everyone in their lock-in taping has witnessed. According to JC, he either hits the gym or bonds with his wife Rica and daughter Lana at home if ever he’s not going to do anything.

As he mentioned that he spends half of his daily life with his family, Erich imparted that even in their bubble, his leading man leaves the set as soon as their shoot wraps up and immediately goes back to his room in order to talk to Rica and Lana via video call.

“Every morning ‘yon. From the time na nagising ‘yong wife ko saka ‘yong daughter ko, nagfa-Facetime kami, tapos bago sila mag-sleep. So that’s around 10PM onwards,” he shared. “’Yon ang routine everyday. Basta kapag nandito sa lock-in, gano’n talaga.”

They also talked about his newfound hobby this pandemic – biking – which he shares with their La Vida Lena co-stars Carlo Aquino and Renshi de Guzman.

Being in the industry for almost two decades, Erich asked him if did it ever crossed his mind to quit showbiz. While other celebrities did at one point of their careers, JC said that has never been the case for him because of his passion and love for his craft.

But aside from his relentless zeal for acting, another thing that we admire about him is how he’s able to keep his personal life private even though he’s been under the limelight for a long time now.

Hindi ko sinasabi lahat sa social media. I’m trying my best not to live the double life. Pinopost ko lang kung ano ‘yong sa tingin kong makaka-inspire, ‘yong makaka-spread ng positivity. Pero ‘di ko siya ginagamit as platform to tell everything about me,” he explained.

As Erich brought up the quote “Privacy is power” that she read somewhere, he agreed and told her that at the end of the day, there are still things that they need to keep to themselves.

He added, “Meron akong gustong sariling privacy na wife ko lang ‘yong nakakakilala sa akin [at] nakakakita, same with my daughter. Gusto ko habang lumalaki siya, ito ‘yong nakikilala niya. Kumbaga kung ano ‘yong napapanood niya sa TV, different person.”

This is also the same reason why he’s not into hosting and his YouTube channel is mainly focused on workout routines rather than featuring his personal life. Besides, he also finds it difficult to speak spontaneously.

Their conversation then veered on his relationship with his wife. For the first time ever, JC confessed that they have already tied the knot two years ago through a civil ceremony before giving birth to their firstborn. And this year, they’re going to finally have their church wedding, but refused to provide further details about it.

When asked how fatherhood has changed him, the 35-year-old actor said, “360. Talagang kinalimutan ko ‘yong buhay binata.” Erich agreed and expressed how proud she is to witness him grow into the awesome family man that he is at present.

As he mentioned how being in a relation with Rica made him realize that he does not want to live the bachelor life anymore and already wanted to settle down, the Kapamilya actress asked how he met his wife. According to him, they used to schoolmates and longtime friends before he started to pursue. He recalled how Rica was so reluctant to give him a chance since she was not keen to be in a relationship with a celebrity like JC, to the point that she made him wait for her sweet ‘yes’ for one and half years. It may be very long and challenging, but he’s really decided to be with her for the rest of his life.

“She totally understands,” he told Erich when asked how Rica feels about the nature of his work, which sometimes requires him to do kissing scenes. “She’s not really cool with it, pero lagi siyang trying to understand and as much as she can, she understands. Okay kami. Going strong.”

With regards to their plan of having another baby, he admitted that they wanted to have one, particularly a boy, but only after their church wedding. When it comes to having a third child, he said that they are still thinking about it because they believe that it should be planned really well for them to be able to give all their kids a bright future.

The chat eventually got serious as she asked him about the realizations he had during this pandemic. For him, it would be that his family is the only one you could rely on.

Walang ibang tutulong sa’yo kundi family mo. Sa lahat ng mga nangyari noong pandemic, siyempre may ups and downs, ang makakasama mo lang talaga [ay] family mo. So you should embrace. Kung dati marami tayong circle of friends, marami tayong extended family, ngayong pandemic, lahat tayo nilagay sa isang bahay. So kung sino ‘yong kasama mo do’n sa bahay, magkakaroon ka talaga ng stronger relationship,” he elaborated.

Then he added, “So right now, talagang in-embrace naming ‘yong family and we wanted to make this really strong, na kahit anong dagok ng buhay, makakaya naming saluhin.

The interview wrapped up with JC divulging his dreams and goals for himself and his family. As the “king” of the family, his and his wife’s primary goal is for them to work hard in order to give their child or children a comfortable life. And for himself, it would be to learn more things and gain more wisdom that he could pass on to Lana – who’s both a daddy’s and mommy’s girl – when the time comes. They currently focus on building their family and future, and have more goals than dreams.
