Strong, long-lasting relationships are rare in showbiz. Thus, it’s delighting to know that relationships among big stars have really gone forever, just like 80s teen idols Harlene Bautista and Romnick Sarmienta.
Their romance started in the defunct iconic youth-oriented variety show That’s Entertainment, where they became a loveteam. From being on-screen partners, they became real-life sweethearts for a while until Harlene broke up with him when his career skyrocketed and he was paired with actress-singer Sheryl Cruz.
They rekindled their romance after 12 years of not seeing each other. Then, they decided to tie the knot after two months. They are now married for 18 years and are proud and supportive parents to their five kids, namely Abijah, Seki, Bo, Merel, and Yuwela.
In his guesting in Magandang Buhay, Romnick revealed that the reason why he seldom accepted projects for the past years was because they wanted to focus on raising their children and not wanting to miss a single milestone in their lives. During his time off showbiz, he became an avid cyclist and a missionary, and made his much-awaited showbiz comeback through La Luna Sangre. On the other hand, his wife chose to take the same path as his brothers Herbert and Hero as a public servant.
Aside from being hands-on to their family, the couple is busy with their business ‘Salu’, a restaurant located in Quezon City that specializes in Filipino cuisine, especially the unfamiliar dishes.
When asked in one of their interviews regarding the secrets behind their sturdy and “forever” relationship, they implied that it’s faith, communication, and humor. They don’t let the day to simply pass by without mending their misunderstandings. They are also not the jealous type, and they put God at the center of their marriage and family. Most importantly, they married for the “right reason”—they wanted to grow old together.
