If there is one love team that has a direct line to our emotions, it has to be
KathNiel.
Their movies are like rollercoasters that we all want to ride again and again. Their characters are people we want to meet in real life. A major factor why these two are the case is because of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla’s acting. Individually and as a tandem, they help the story speak to the viewers on a personal level.
“Mata ‘yung unang nagmamahal.”
At least once in our lives, we have wondered why the person we like does not like us back. So in "Must Be Love," when Patchot finally told Ivan how she truly feels, every line sounded like a hugot we can all relate to.
“Hindi lang ikaw may problema sa mundo.”
Love is not the only aspect of life that KathNiel has taught us all a lesson. In "Crazy Beautiful You," Kiko’s real talk about Jackie’s stubbornness slapped many of us back to reality. We have to choose our battles, because not every problem is worth turning into a big deal.
“Pwede na ba maging tayo? ‘Yung as in tayo, ‘yung official, verified.”
When you do find something worth fighting for, you would be amazed at the lengths someone is willing to go. Just like how Jackie and Kiko realized their true feelings for each other and decided to make it “verified”. Even if the scene took place on an overpass, the moment didn’t lose its romantic feeling.
“Gusto ko na hindi magtapos ‘yung buhay ko dahil lang sa isang pagkakamali.”
We all have a limit, and seeing Mia reach hers in this scene from "Barcelona: A Love Untold" was one of the most intense scenes KathNiel has ever had. Ely thought he had her all figured out, but by the end, he was the one left speechless for underestimating her.
“Sabihin mo sa kanya na puwede na ulit siya maging masaya.”
It hurts to know that the one you love hasn’t completely moved on from the past. But the way Mia handled it in this ferriswheel scene never feels to get our eyes watery. Talking to Celine and asking her to tell Ely that it is okay to fall in love again, ferris wheels will never be the same again.
“Anong lugar naming mga gustong magmahal sayo?”
They say that the ones you love can hurt you the most. This heartbreaking scene proved this to be true. It’s one of the most painful moments for KathNiel fans. But probably not as painful as it was for Mia to hear Ely say those words.
“Inisip ko na, ano kayang pakiramdam ng may panghabang buhay.”
Meanwhile, we didn’t expect for this romantic comedy to turn into a tearjerker. When Gab discovered that Dos that a serious illness, everyone in the cinemas collectively gasped at the news. We all held our breaths as he talked about loving her and being sorry for ruining her plans.
“Will you marry me, again?”
Fortunately, everything still worked out in "Can’t Help Falling in Love.' After serenading him to "Panalangin" by the Apo Hiking Society, Gab proposed to Dos in the sweetest way possible. The gloomy hospital room was suddenly more beautiful than any colorful landscape.
“Kahit isang beses lang sa buhay mo, ayaw mo bang maging matapang?”
Imagine admitting to your crush and hearing them reciprocate your feelings. Athena and Kenji from "She’s Dating the Gangster" looked so happy and relieved in their confession scene. Us viewers couldn’t help but cheer along as well.
“Two months, two weeks, three days, 10 hours, 57 minutes”
We all know these numbers by heart. When it finally sank in that Athena and Kenji wouldn’t be getting that happily ever after, fans were devastated. This is one of those moments we can only hope to erase from our memories.
These are fictional stories with imagined characters. But we are still deeply affected by them because of Kathryn and Daniel’s all out performances. Which scene is your favorite?
