Ever since it started more than a year ago, Kadenang Ginto has never failed to astound us with the riveting and nail-biting scenes it delivers in every episode -- from the scorching confrontations among its incessantly warring characters and heart-pounding action-packed scenes, up to the mind-blowing twists that we really didn't see coming.
Now we've finally reached the highly anticipated conclusion of the controversial soap opera, let's revisit five of its most explosive scenes that truly left us all dumbfounded via this Friday 5 feature.
Leon is Hector and Daniela's accomplice
Just when we thought that Romina (Beauty Gonzalez) had found a new ally in Leon (Richard Yap), the creators proved us wrong later on as they unraveled the truth behind his identity and the reason of his sudden arrival in her life.
We discovered that he's actually the 'favorite' cousin of Hector (Joko Diaz), who, as we all know, is the loyal right-hand (and lover!) of Romina's mortal nemesis Daniela (Dimples Romana). Leon was compelled to forge allegiance with them by following their orders after Hector vowed to let him see his estranged son Paco (Louise Abuel).
From almost hitting Romina while she was walking on the road and assisting her to stand up, residing and establishing a business near their new residence, up to winning her favor and making her fall in love with him, Leon's every interaction with her was brilliantly plotted and was just for the show.
Robert was alive
While the revelation of him being the real culprit behind Romina’s rape was already enough to shock us all, the creators further surprised us with his unforeseen 'death' after the private helicopter he embarked on exploded mid-air. As we all know, the heartbreaking demise of Robert (Albert Martinez) worsen the rivalry between his new wife Romina and his resentful daughter Daniela and made the series extra exciting as the latter tried her best to hide the deepest and darkest secret of her dad.
And we all found ourselves living a lie for almost a year as it was revealed later on that he was able to survive the explosion and worked as a crew in an international cargo ship in order to live and return to his family. Unfortunately, he got shot while he was trying to escape and was saved by a Filipina named Eva (Ana Abad Santos), who turned out to be his obsessive lover. Robert managed to get away from her and return to his family.
It was Leon who discovered about his state after speaking to a Chinese man who became friends with Robert while they were both working aboard.
Romina’s confrontation with confirmed rapist Robert in renewal of vows
This scorching encounter between Romina and Robert ensued after the heartbreaking moment when the DNA test results confirmed the consanguinity of her spouse and her daughter Cassie (Francine Diaz), which both happened on the night that they were supposed to renew their vows.
Arriving at the venue in a shimmering gold gown, the infuriated Romina didn’t hesitate to confront Robert in front of their family and friends who were already waiting there for her as well and immediately slapped him hard twice. Despite his plea for them to talk about the matter in private, she remained unstoppable as she tearfully broadcast how the man they all respected was actually a rapist.
Cassie's unexpected death
Another death that we truly didn’t see coming was that of Cassie’s. As Romina entered the chapel holding her framed portrait along with the coffin presumably containing her lifeless body, viewers were quick to conclude that the well-loved young character was already dead.
However, it was later on revealed that everything was orchestrated by Romina in her pursuit of saving Cassie and of finally sending Daniela and Hector to jail. She forcibly drove Cassie out of the car before she intentionally crashed and shot it, then put the gun she used inside the car of Daniela who was unconscious then, making it appear that Daniela ambushed them.
Bonita knew about the bombing
Just when we thought that Bonita (Kat Galang) has been absolutely loyal to Romina, we once again found ourselves wrong as she recently confessed knowing about the bombing incident that took the life of their friend Jepoy (Josh Ivan Morales).
According to her, Hector called her and asked on what she knows about Romina’s plans against Daniela. As she insisted not having any idea regarding it, she received a package the next day containing a severed hand, which she assumed was Hector’s way of threatening her and her family. Helpless and frightened, she chose to keep mum about it.
Knowing that what she did was indeed unforgivable, she still asked for Romina’s forgiveness and agreed to join her in rescuing her brother Neil (Adrian Lindayag) and exacting revenge to Daniela and Hector.
