Angel Locsin is supposed to be a married woman by now, having planned her wedding this year, which she was forced to postpone due to the global crisis. Nonetheless, even the public could say that she had a meaningful year as they witnessed how she’s done so much for taking part in charitable causes during this pandemic.

Angel, dubbed as the real-life Darna, has many times proven herself a superhero especially when her kababayans suffered from the COVID-19 crisis. One of her noble acts was spearheading the UniTentWeStandPH, a project that was created to address the challenge of overcrowding occurring in hospitals during this pandemic.

Of course, Angel was scared of the risks. She was also thinking of her safety. But in times when her fellow Filipinos are in dire need of help, Angel is always one of the philanthropists who would take the risk and rise to the occasion.

The crisis did not end with just the pandemic. Angel has also been visible during the campaigns to support her home network’s fight for franchise renewal. She was admittedly disappointed when the franchise was denied, heartbroken for the 11,000 employees who lost their jobs.

Four months after the devastating event, Angel saw a flicker of hope when Kapamilya shows started airing on free TV via A2Z Channel. Smiling, she said she’s always grateful for second chances.”Andito pa rin kami, lumalaban dahil pinaglalaban n’yo rin kami,” she told avid supporters of the Kapamilya Network.

Angel also mentioned that during the pandemic, she lost her pet dog Pwet-Pwet whose cremation ashes were mixed in a pot of soil, so a plant could grow in its place. This way, she feels like Pwet-Pwet is still with her.

She has always wanted to learn farming in order to secure food supply in communities such as that of the Dumagat tribe in the mountains of Sierra Madre in Norzagaray, Bulacan. Last month, she immersed with and extended assistance to the Dumagats.

Angel and fiancé, Neil Arce, recently ventured into vlogging and plan to use their channel as a platform to help the needy. Apart from the charitable content in the future, the couple thinks of releasing a sneak peek of their wedding preparations.

Add to the long list of things that keep her busy the public service program Iba ‘Yan which features inspiring stories about humanity and the Filipino spirit of bayanihan. Hosting the show allows her to immerse with real people and learn lessons from their plight. Her mantra is to always prioritize other people and pay it forward.

Angel topped the list of Most Admired Women among online users in the Philippines in 2020. Asked about her reaction to this news, the Kapamilya actress said she was in disbelief at first. “Hindi ko naman ine-expect ‘yung ganun pero maraming salamat sa tiwala. Wala naman ako dito para makuha ‘yung approval ng ibang tao, ‘di ba? Pero at least tama ‘yung direksyon natin, ‘yung prinsipyo natin, ‘yung paniniwala, siguro nasa tamang track,” she expressed.

Her big-heartedness for the public ignites speculations about an alleged plan to run for public office but Angel stressed that she has zero interest in politics. She would admit that there are offers but she believes politics isn’t her forte. She’d rather put up her own charitable institution to continue helping others.

Angel turned 35 last April 23. She got a surprise treat from family and friends who sent her cakes for her simple quarantine celebration. The selfless angel on earth had the end of the pandemic as her birthday wish.
