As we anticipate the upcoming Tawag Ng Tanghalan Season 6 Quarter Finals, the contenders gave us sample performances and shared their preparations in the 10th episode of It’s Sharetime benefit show, hosted by Showtime Sexy Babe Authori-team Samantha Bernardo and It’s Showtime Online U’s Ana Ramsey.
The fundraiser is part of ABS-CBN and ABS-CBN’s “Tulong-Tulong Sa Pag-Ahon: Isang Daan Sa Pagtutulungan” campaign that aims to provide relief to Typhoon Odette victims. The campaign has already distributed food, water, and hygiene kits to the survivors. But the ‘bayanihan’ still continues, this time targeting to collect funds for home repair kits as many survivors remain in evacuation centers.
As in the previous nights, the featured artists entertained viewers as means of inspiring them to help Kapamilyas affected by the calamity. TNT graduates JM Dela Cerna and Luis Gragera kicked off the music fest with classic love songs.
“Tawag Ng Tanghalan: Ika-6 Na Taon” quarter finalists – JR Oclarit, Keisha Paulo, Don King Peregrino, Ralph Mariano, Lee’Ana Layumas, Eufritz Santos, and Querubin Llavore – gave a sneak peek of the much-awaited vocal showdown and shared how they’re getting ready.
This batch of contenders truly embodies the grit of a dreamer as not everyone will have the courage to compete at a time of a pandemic given the restrictions, plus the segment was restructured to really test the contestants’ abilities. That’s why apart from consistent rehearsals, they also make sure to take proper rest and as much as possible isolate themselves to avoid unfortunate incidents (such as getting sick in a crowd) that might impede their journey to the quarter finals.
JR added it’s important to be emotionally prepared since it’s a tough competition, “Mind-conditioning lang na enjoy lang, give your best, and come what may. Parang isipin lang namin na we’ll just perform for everyone. Ibigay lang namin kung anong talent namin.”
They have also come up with rituals that work best for them. Lee’Ana, for instance, regularly gargles with oral hygiene solutions to care for her throat. A healthy voice also requires the right diet with less sweets and cold drinks. Of course, a good night’s sleep is likewise essential for voice care.
But most of all, it takes a good amount of practice and prayers. Samantha, a seasoned beauty pageant ‘kontesera’ shared her piece of advice on having a winner’s mentality and beating the jitters. “I believe talaga nobody is perfect but if we practice talaga, magiging muscle memory. So ‘pag dumating ‘yung kaba and you know how to control it, at ‘pag nandun ka na sa stage, it’s not going to be a wasted opportunity but rather the best moment of your life,” said the Miss Grand International 2020 first runner-up.
Talking about her experiences, Samantha shared that beauty queens are expected to veer away from a sexy image. But joining It’s Showtime’s sexy authori-team that required her to showcase her versatility, she feels like she’s already graduated from pageants and is ready to unlock more of her talents.
Near the end of the show, netizens requested Ana to sing a track from her aunt, Queen of Soul Jaya, so she belted out “Wala Na Bang Pag-Ibig.”
Joining them in the final few minutes of the episode was Klarisse De Guzman, also a seasoned ‘kontesera’ and now a TNT hurado. “Sobrang thankful ako sa It’s Showtime for giving me this opportunity. Grabe, tuwing nanonood ako sa mga contestants, very nostalgic. Kasi before ako ‘yung nandoon, alam ko yung nararamdaman nila sa stage, sali nang sali. Dati, suki ako ng mga contests ng ABS-CBN kaya sobrang blessing sa akin ‘to. Thankful ako dahil ngayon magiging parte ako para maabot din nila ‘yung mga pangarap nila,” she mused.
As advice to the hopefuls, Klarisse said they all have the skills but practice really makes a difference. Most of all, keep on praying and trusting God’s timing. Klarisse closed the Saturday night concert belting out her single “Wala Na Talaga” and “To Love Somebody,” which she performed during The Voice of the Philippines semi-finals.
The ‘bayanihan’ continues with the next phase of Isang Daan Sa Pagtutulungan 100-night campaign, By Request 3, starting March 20 until March 29, live streamed at 8 p.m. on FYE Channel on Kumu, ABS-CBN Entertainment Facebook page and YouTube channel, iWantTFC, and SKYcable Channel 955 HD and Channel 155 SD.
