After being brought to the future via yesterday’s performance, the awesome threesome of Jugs Jugueta, Teddy Corpuz and Jhong Hilario took us to a trip down memory lane through their impressive and colorful throwback-themed production number for the fourth day of the Magpasikat 2019 week that fell exactly on the day when It’s Showtime was incepted 10 years ago.
Their presentation was indeed a ‘blast-from-the-past’ as they didn’t simply paid tribute to the 80s era through the concept, costumes, props, and acts they incorporated in it, but they also brought back some of the fondest moments they shared on the noontime program.

As they asked everyone in the theater to wear the 3D glasses they handed to them, the spectators considered it as a hint that we’re in for another fantastic surprise from the winningest tandem of Jugs and Teddy who has already bagged five championship trophies in the past 10 stagings of Magpasikat and is known for their out-of-the-box ideas.
It started with a literally out-of-this-world three-dimensional audio-visual introduction, and was succeeded by a VTR showing Jhong Hilario watching Kuya Kim Atienza blabbing trivia about the 1980s. It turned out to be a comedy skit as Kuya Escort Ion Perez and Ate Girl Jackque Gonzaga came into the picture, asking about the VHS player and tape they retrieved.
Upon “playing” it, we were brought to their live performance on-stage titled “80’s Showtime”. Everything they uttered and sang sounded gibberish that reminded us of their Magpasikat entry in 2014 together with Karylle, wherein they got us all initially puzzled and amused afterwards with their “back masking” spectacle. Jugs and Teddy served as the hosts while Jhong (who was also one of the hosts), Sanrio, Ion, and Jackque were the performers of their “Kaloka-Like”-inspired segment as they impersonated Michael Jackson, Boy George, Randy Santiago and Madonna, respectively.
But more exciting things happened after it as former cast members of the noontime show Kuya Kim (as Indiana Jokes), Eric “Eruption” Tai (as Hulk Logan), and Billy Crawford and Coleen Garcia (as Gabby Concepcion and Sharon Cuneta) emerged on the stage to join Jhong, Ion, and Jackque in their mini comedy sketch.
The reversed version of their bewildering opening number was then played on screen, showing that they actually were performing the hits of the aforementioned music icons.
Team Jugs-Teddy-Jhong concluded their set by performing their rework on It’s Showtime’s theme song and a mash-up of some of the 80’s hits that we’ve probably jammed on and danced to over and over again.
Carmi Martin appeared with a madlang people brandishing a photo of Roderick Paulate on his face, followed by three dudes holding images of the “Bagets” lead cast Herbert Bautista, William Martinez, and Aga Muhlach, a woman with Maricel Soriano’s picture covering her face, and lastly, Randy Santiago.
The Sample King and the Rock Kings amazingly did a great job in fulfilling their oath of making people happy. Their Magpasikat 2019 entry is a clear reminder for us that while it’s nice for us to revel in everything that we have in the present and dream of the things we want to happen in the future, we should not forget to remember all the fond memories we had and we shared with our loved ones in the past.
