In the three decades that she has been in the local entertainment scene, Rufa Mae Quinto has already created her mark as a talented and exceptional comedienne, which she got to showcase through her film and television stints. And this 2024, she marks her 30th anniversary by making herself regular on It’s Showtime, as she takes on the role of a hurado for its well-loved segment, “Kalokalike.”
Within the several months that she has been on showbiz, the “Comedy Diva” has earned the admiration of the madlang people due to her innate comedic chops and palpable chemistry with the hosts. Let’s look back on some of Rufa Mae’s hilarious moments on the show that totally left us amused in this Showtime Toplist.
Just a few days after the “Kalokalike” segment was launched, we were immediately humored by Vice Ganda’s funny stories about Rufa Mae’s shenanigans in her pursuit of approving herself as a mainstay not just on “It’s Showtime” but also in ABS-CBN.
According to Vice, Rufa Mae was too eager, to the point that she would like to take part in the brainstorming of the show’s creative team to give her inputs and to even pitch a new segment inspired by her name. Besides, it has also been her habit to swing by the hosts’ dressing rooms to have small talks with them, particularly with Vice and her husband, Ion Perez, who is her fellow Kapampangan.
The Unkabogable Star then went on to expose the requests of Rufa Mae as a hurado. First was the huge “Kalokalike” statue that she suggested must emulate her trademark “go, go, go!” gesticulation, then the segment title should be “Kalookalike,” and lastly, having Aubrey Miles as her fellow hurado for a certain episode.
Vice disclosed a new ‘complaint’ from Rufa Mae, this time with regard to sharing the same outfit color with mainstay and her co-hurado Teddy Corpuz. As both of them were wearing color green that day, she quipped that it made her want to “irregular” and “pack-up” herself. Thus, the hosts explained that it’s just alright since they were clad in different shade – hers was in pistachio, while Teddy’s was in olive.
In another episode, Vice divulged that Rufa Mae wanted to make some changes on the set of “Kalokalike” for she wanted everyone to see her complete OOTD to which she always exerts much effort on. Since they couldn’t make any alterations on set anymore, Vice simply advised Rufa Mae to place her legs on top of the hurados’ table for everyone to see her two sets of toes, which she named “todo na toe” and “sak-toe.”
On that same episode, Rufa Mae got to try dancing the viral hit “Salamin, Salamin,” after an impersonator of BINI member Gwen performed it during her set. The hosts then called for any Rufa Mae lookalikes to audition as they wished in jest to replace her.
The talented comedienne clearly found her match in Barbie Forteza, who is as energetic as her in greeting the madlang people. As Barbie heeded the hosts’ request for her to mimic Rufa Mae, the latter congratulated the former for making it to “It’s Showtime” as a guest hurado.
And ultimately, it was not only Barbie who got to showcase her Rufa Mae impersonation but mainstay Anne Curtis as well, who surprised everyone with her unexpected appearance on the program. It was also revealed that Rufa Mae and Anne were used to being close friends in their younger years and bonded over dancing at the disco.
