Kim Chiu tackles Chinese roots, relationship as she answers the most searched questions about her

Who wouldn’t want to get to know a sunny girl like Kim Chiu? Not the fans who ask a little help from the web to get upclose and personal with the charming Chinita Princess. In a recent vlog post, Kim collated the top searched questions about her and answered them one by one. It tackled favorites, family, and relationship updates among others.

Kim mentioned that the entry was inspired by Hollywood superstar Dua Lipa. She then introduced the video’s concept and expressed how she feels about it, “Our vlog for today is about the most searched questions about me. Ano ba ‘yung mga tanong ng mga tao tungkol sa akin na madalas nilang tinatanong sa Google. So, kinakabahan ako dito. I will answer all the questions.”

‘Kim Chiu,’ when used as a keyword on Google, would open up topics about the actress’ life and filmography. The topmost question is about her first movie, which Kim vividly remembers as “First Day High.” She played the nerdy campus girl Indi. Then-newcomer, Kim was elated to be working with her idol turned good friend Maja Salvador.

Asked how she got discovered, she answered, “Hindi naman ako na-discover, nagpa-discover ako. Nilaban ko ‘yung self ko doon sa PBB audition noong 2006 sa Cebu. Charter day noon sa Cebu, February 2006 tapos nagkaayaan kami ng mga classmates ko tapos pumila kami.”

Director and now Head of Star Magic Lauren Dyogi screened the applicants. Kim is thankful that he saw her potential. Kim won Big Winner for Pinoy Big Brother’s first teen season. She carried the moniker “Chinese Cutie ng Cebu.”

Curious if Kim can speak Chinese? The answer is “yes, but just a little.” To give a sample, she talked about herself in Mandarin. Kim said their family, especially on her grandmother’s side, often converses in Fukien and they remain devoted to old Chinese traditions.

Mas marunong akong umintindi ng Fukien which is madalas ginagamit dito sa Pilipinas. Baka matutunan ko, aralin natin ‘yan,” she explained.

People seem interested in Kim’s siblings. The ‘Chiu sibs’ are Lakam, Twinkle, William, John Paul, and Kim as the fourth child. She revealed having half-siblings as well, “Mayroon akong total of 12 or 13 siblings. I’m not sure but madami sila. Pero ‘yung buo kong kapatid is five lang talaga kami. Amazing trivia!”

The 5’5” beauty shared some hacks to look taller in photos such as taking low-angle snaps. She thinks her lean arms also lengthen her frame.

Talking about being lean, perhaps it’s the reason why people are curious about Kim’s favorite food. Chinese food is her go-to meal and snack. “Anything Chinese food – mga dim sum, siomai, buchi, siopao, pancit, noodles. Naha-happy talaga ako kapag kumakain ako ng Chinese food.”

She can only operate automatic vehicles, good enough for relaxing long drives. She used to go on solo road trips to chill and enjoy the view. She isn’t good at parking, though, “Sana walang magtanong ng ‘Can Kim Chiu park the car at the basement?’ dahil I cannot park the car. Kaya favorite ko ang mall na may valet dahil ipa-park nila for me.”

Born on April 19, Kim is a Taurus. And as a true-blue Taurus, she considers herself bull-headed and loyal. She can also get extremely mad that’s why she’d rather zip her mouth and walk away when triggered.

“’Pag nagalit ako, kinikimkim ko lahat ng galit ko pero ‘pag sumabog ‘to, may napapaiyak talaga ako. Kaya ‘pag nagagalit ako, kino-control ko. Aalis na lang ako kasi ayaw kong mapagalitan ‘yung tao na ‘yun dahil alam kong may masasabi ako na mga words na hindi ko dapat sabihin. Pero mabilis ako magpatawad,” she revealed.

She’s born in Tacloban City, where she stayed until sixth grade. “Pero pabalik-balik kami ng Cebu every summer, nando’n ‘yung mga kamag-anak namin, eh. Mama ko ay taga-Surigao at ‘yung Papa ko ay taga-Cebu.”

The Kapamilya actress admitted she regrets not being able to finish her college studies. She enrolled in a business course at the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU). It was a home-school setup but she had to quit by her sophomore year due to showbiz commitment. “I think everything happens for a reason. Dito ako dinala at masaya ako na napag-college ko ‘yung tatlo sa mga kapatid ko. Nakapagtapos sila ng pag-aaral. It’s rewarding na for me,” she related. Kim wishes to still pursue her college degree soon.

The It’s Showtime host was amused by the question “How is Kim Chiu?” “Okay naman ako,” she answered. Kim thought people are curious how she’s been doing after going through challenges last year. “Ang sweet naman ng mga tao. Kinukumusta nila ako kay Google. I’m okay, I’m fine, I’m happy. Siguro kaya most searched ito dahil sa mga nangyari sa akin last year. I’m okay. After one year, ito po tayo, alive na alive and kicking. Thank you, Lord!”

For the next round, the Kapamilya star entertained questions with the keyword ‘Is Kim Chiu.’ Netizens ask if Kim is married to Xian Lim. Although surprised, Kim was quick to deny the assumption. She said they are just madly in love and we just have to wait for what happens next.

There are also fans who ask if Kim and Xian are still together. Kim replied, “Oo naman! Huwag namang hindi. Yes, we are still together and very much happy all these years. Thank you, Xi!”

Kim’s Chinese roots seem to be one of the most popular queries about her. In this video, ASAP Natin To’s Queen of the Dance Floor explained her genealogy. “’Yung Papa ko is 75 percent Chinese. Mama ko is 50 percent Chinese so ang kalalabasan noon ay half-Chinese. Mayroon talaga kaming Chinese blood dahil ang Lolo ko ay nanggaling sa China. Mayroon siyang ibang apelyido dati pero bumili sila ng ibang apelyido para makasampa sila dito sa Pilipinas. Ang nabili nilang apelyido ay Chiu.

She also noted that her surname is often misspelled. “Ang binili ng Lolo ko ay C-H-I-U. I muna bago U. Ako muna bago ikaw,” she quipped.

Kim clarifies that she has no Korean blood, contrary to what people assume. She is only half-Chinese and half-Filipino, although she’s so into Korean culture. “Gusto kong maging Korean para mapasama ako sa YG Entertainment. Pero masaya na ako kasi kung hindi ako naging Chinese, hindi ako magiging si Kim Chiu. Magiging ako si Kim Jisoo, Kim Jennie, or Kimchi,” she joked.

For the third and final level, Kim selected questions using the keywords ‘Who is Kim Chiu.’ Fans surprisingly search Kim’s boyfriend. The answer, as most of us know, is Xian Lim. They’re also eager to know her best friend. Kim mentioned the ‘AngBeKi’ squad Angelica Panganiban and Bela Padilla, and her childhood bestie Miles from General Santos City. She also considers Xian and her sisters as her best friends.

Sa panahon ngayon, wala naman sigurong super-duper best friends, as long as they are real and true sa’yo and they care for you,” said Kim’s definition of a ‘best friend.’
