Who doesn’t love a good throwback, especially when it’s a kiddie snap or one that reminds you of your career milestones? In the freshest episode of Showtime All Access: Showtime Reax, Kapamilya heartthrob Edward Barber was in the mood to reminisce as he reacted to his old photos.
The episode kicked off with a punchline from It’s Showtime’s ‘Ate Girl’ Jackie Gonzaga. “Noong bata ka ba, pinangarap mong maging barber?” she asked her guest. Smiling, Edward said he didn’t but when he was about six, he thought his father was some kind of a barber shop mogul, “Akala ko ‘yung Tatay ko may-ari ng bawat barber shops kaya ang yabang-yabang ko.”
If given the ability to cut hair, he’d probably choose someone with the easiest hairstyle to make. “Si Tito Boy,” he quipped.
After the banter, Edward talked about an adorable childhood photo with his sister, Laura. He mentioned that he used to speak with a British accent since his father is British but he adapted the American accent more while growing up.
Next is a photo of his character from the Kapamilya fantasy series Hiwaga ng Kambat. Edward was reminded of how uncomfortable it felt wearing his “taong paniki” costume and prosthetics. “Ang bigat! Ang baho kasi it’s made of rubber, then, amoy-pawis kasi paulit-ulit ginagamit tapos may mga fight scenes pa.” Sometimes they’d even shoot his scenes at the hottest hours of the day. Playing an unconventional role is an achievement for Edward but he has no plans of wearing prosthetics again.
The third one is a happy snap with Aga Muhlach, whom we worked with alongside Bea Alonzo in the romance-drama movie “First Love” in 2018, one of his first solo projects. The team flew to Canada to shoot some scenes.
Edward reminisced on the good memories on the set, saying everyone including Aga and Bea and Director Paul Soriano made him feel at home. “Sobrang relaxed! Natural lang lahat, walang pressure, walang stress. Kahit ‘yung medyo seryosong scene o ‘yung kailangan ng timing, madali lang kasi ang galing nilang lahat.” Even if he was still a newbie at that time, Edward gelled well with the senior artists.
The former Pinoy Big Brother housemate wants to focus on hosting, looking forward to more episodes of MYX online show “Kwentong Barber.” He teased about its season 3 finale wherein they’re aiming for a role reversal, Edward to be interviewed by a guest.
While acting may take a backseat, he said he’s still open to doing a movie or series depending on the offer. If there’s a chance, he would like to work with Aga again because the latter already expressed the same wish. “Nu’ng party after the movie, sabi niya sa akin, ‘Edward, let’s work again in the future.’”
