They’ve been making us laugh every noontime with their hilarious banters and shenanigans on the It’s Showtime stage. But last Sunday, May 22, a few members of the gregarious family astounded us with their skills in basketball as Team Showtime dominated the much-awaited Star Magic 30 All-Star Games held at the Araneta Coliseum, Quezon City.
Comprising the winning team are hosts Ogie Alcasid, Vhong Navarro, Teddy Corpuz, Jugs Jugueta, Ryan Bang, and Ion Perez; Tawag ng Tanghalan hurado Nyoy Volante; Hashtag members Zeus Collins, Wilbert Ross, Kid Yambao, and Vitto Marquez; Bidaman winners Johannes Rissler and Jin Macapagal; and former mainstay Eric “Eruption” Tai. “Ate Girl” Jackie Gonzaga was chosen as the muse.
Team Showtime indeed live up to their name as they made sure to give a fantastic entrances one-by-one, which turned out to become one of the most memorable moments in the highly anticipated annual sports event hosted by Star Magic, the premiere talent management and development arm of ABS-CBN. Each member enthusiastically grooved to the songs played as they marched towards the court from the dugout.
As they battled it out against Team Star Magic, the It’s Showtime family – as the ever-comedic and gregarious they naturally are – made sure to inject a tinge of comic relief during the game. Among those was of Ogie and Vhong’s almost incessant passing of the ball to one another, as the players of the opposing team watched them with amusement.
But amid the intense yet friendly competition between Team Showtime and Team Star Magic, the venue was suddenly filled with shock and kilig as Hashtag Zeus staged his surprise marriage proposal to his beloved girlfriend (and now fiancée!), Myka Pauline Redondo. And it was a double win for him and the team as he didn’t only receive her sweet “yes” that he was yearning for, but the It’s Showtime fam also went home victorious in the end.
Three players of Team Showtime also joined Team Star Magic’s Ronnie Alonte and Donny Pangilinan in the “Mythical Five”, namely Eric Tai, Ion Perez, and Most Valuable Player Johannes Rissler.
Unkabogable Host Vice Ganda and his friends were also present in the sidelines to cheer and show their support (and even love!) for their beloved players.
