Those who have religiously watched the anniversary celebrations of It’s Showtime through the years would know that the unbreakable tandem of Jugs Jugueta and Teddy Corpuz holds the greatest number of wins because of their mind-blowing Magpasikat performances.
And this year, with Ryan Bang as their third member and Anne Curtis as the emcee, they treated the madlang people to an epic concert treat as they mounted a “Battle of the Bands”-themed number dubbed “Project 11: Tuloy Ang Tugtugan” that they dedicated to everyone in the music scene extremely affected by the pandemic.
However, instead of having their respective bands on the show, the trio had themselves as bandmates by projecting pre-recorded videos of them in various appearances as they took on the different positions in a band.
The first to perform was “School of Jugs”, who performed Itchyworms’ “Gusto Ko Lamang Sa Buhay”, succeeded by “Teddy University” who made us sang along to Rocksteddy’s “Superhero”, then the “Ryan Band” who amused us with Ryan’s “Abang-abang”.
They then rocked the stage as they moved on to the epic band showdown, wherein the three of them sang an uplifting yet headbanging original composition along with OPM legends Raymund Marasigan, Kitchie Nadal, and Ebe Dancel, the vocalists of well-loved bands This Band, December Avenue, and Soapdish, I Belong To The Zoo, Black Eyed Peas member Apl de Ap, and Anne. Ryan also astonished us with his hidden talent in playing the flute!
“Simple lang naman ‘yong gusto ng team namin at ‘yon ang maranasan ulit natin ang saya ng tugtugan ng mga live concerts, ng mga gigs, ng mga events [dahil] d’yan tayo nabubuhay dati,” Jugs explained when asked what the inspiration behind their truly enjoyable Magpasikat number.
Apart from bringing us the gig atmosphere that many of us definitely missed, Team Jugs-Teddy-Ryan also extended assistance to Roadies Club PH, an organization comprised by technical and production crews for concerts and other musical shindigs, and a Php 11,000 ayuda to a lucky It’s Showtime viewer online.
