The strings of music bind Efren Almeda and SInando Dungao together and their strong friendship is their lives’ greatest hit. The two musicians, now in their 60’s, started out their life-long jams at the age of 13 when they still used to spend idle times at the field while playing the guitar and singing in harmony.
They eventually formed a band in the late 2000’s drawing inspiration from their influences like Juan dela Cruz, Anthony Castelo, and RJ Jacinto. They eventually stopped making music together for a while especially since they lack the finances to support their craft’s essential requirements like basic instruments which they avail.
They may no longer be performing in official gigs but Efren and Sinando still remain a “rocking in tandem” after almost five decades since their first music session began. In fact, they have managed to keep up with the millennial era of music as seen in their cover of Juan Karlos’ “Buwan” which has become a trending material in social media.
Their viral video exhibits the comfort and relaxation they get from even their simple jams in their neighborhood. As part of It’s Showtime’s desire to bring inspiring stories this Holy Week, rock duo Teddy Corpuz and Jugs Jugueta journeyed to Binan, Laguna to give Efren and Sinando a series of musical surprises.
But, before anything else, Efren and Sinando visit the farm once again to relieve their youthful days of still trying their hands at the guitar. Then, they experienced the performances of their lifetime as they own the stage in a mini concert attended by their friends, families, and supporters. Sinando had almost shed tears of joy while Efren was delighted to know that his daughter whom he has not seen for the past five years was at the audience to watch him perform.
First on the duo’s playlist that night was a classic Anthony Castelo song. A surprise guest came up on stage in the middle of the entertaining show; none other than OPM hit maker Anthony Castelo himself. Yet, the shower of overwhelming dream-come-true moments did not stop after the concert as they get to share the spotlight with legendary rock icon, Mike Hanapol in his birthday gig.
Efren and Sinando can already stay attuned to their musical calling anytime they want to; as they receive a new acoustic guitar, keyboard, and speaker set from It’s Showtime. But as they say, a musician’s way of living is sometimes challenged by uncertainties, yet Efren and SInando no longer have to worry much about the future as they unwrap a livelihood package still from the Kapamilya noontime show.
There are moments when life gets out of tune but in times when the song of hope seems inaudible, it is important to have someone to replay good memories with. Efren and Sinando’s friendship reminds us that a harmonious melody shared with others is one is a big success we can take a hold of.
