“Kumusta ka ba? Kaya pa ba? ‘Yong totoo?”
We’ve certainly encountered these questions a lot of times in our lives, but not all of us are keen or brave enough to share what we really feel for different reasons. While we usually opt to hide our feelings and say that we’re okay even though we are really not, “It’s Showtime” hosts Ogie Alcasid, Kim Chiu, MC Calaquian, and Lassy Marquez bravely showed their vulnerable side through their team’s spectacular and poignant production number for the second day of Magpasikat 2024 on Tuesday, October 22.
It commenced with a VTR showing Showtime Online U hosts, Showtime Baby Dolls, and recent celebrity guests Lovi Poe, Bela Padilla, and Carlo Aquino answering the question, “Kumusta ka na ba?” Ogie, Kim, MC, and Lassy then emerged one by one on the stage, bedecked with LED screens in various sizes and other props, with worry and gloom painted onto their faces as they wandered around.
They were subsequently joined by an ensemble of actors and dancers as they took part in singing “Kumusta Ka Na Ba?”, which is an original composition of Ogie. The four hosts then went on to deliver their heart-rending and relatable monologues regarding the respective challenges that they go through in their personal and professional lives that not a lot of people are certainly aware of, before they proceeded to their solo showcases.
Ogie proved what a true musical genius and legend he is, as he was able to channel the things that have been going in his mind and heart through another original composition. It was through that song that he was able to confess about his insecurities as a veteran artist, as well as his struggles in reinventing himself in order to remain relevant and to keep pace with the ever-evolving industry. Instead of just singing and playing the piano, the OPM hitmaker made his set extra exciting by having himself strapped onto his chair as the platform he was on gradually rose, tilted, and spun him counterclockwise.
Meanwhile, MC and Lassy were able to attest that there is absolutely more to them than being mere comedians. Aside from showing the viewers a bit of their dramatic acting skills as they gave us a glimpse of what the lives of stand-up comedians usually look like off-stage and off-cam, the dynamic comedy duo also displayed confidence and bravery through their aerial cube act. Their fantastic set conveyed that the show must go on for them regardless of what would happen in their personal lives.
Kim, on the other hand, apparently had found an outlet to express how exhausted she has been in satisfying the demands of “entitled audiences,” who still find her not enough despite already exerting her all and doing her best in everything that she does. The Chinita Princess portrayed her internal struggles by doing an interpretative dance of the Sarah Geronimo hit “Isa Pang Araw,” which their sole celebrity guest, Morissette Amon, magnificently covered. But the real icing on the cake was Kim’s flying trapeze stunt, which completely stunned spectators.
Adding more drama to the Magpasikat 2024 production number of Team Ogie-Kim-MC-Lassy were the separate VTRs of their loved ones delivering their poignant words of appreciation and encouragement for them, which got the four hosts instantly emotional. They converged on the stage again to reprise singing their presentation’s official anthem while being dangled mid-air in harnesses. Subsequently, they reminded everyone to pause, breathe, and calm down whenever they feel exhausted (or “tigil, hinga, kalma kapag pagod na”).
The group capped off their performance by introducing the people who helped them pull off their completely relatable, touching, and astonishing number during the curtain call.
Going through the comments of madlang netizens on X (formerly Twitter), many were apparently stirred and stunned by Team Ogie-Kim-MC-Lassy’s presentation. They found its message timely and relevant, as well as the respective showcases marvelously creative, spectacular, and well executed, especially the breathtaking stunts of Kim. Here are some of them:
Team Ogie-Kim-MC-Lassy indeed succeeds in hitting their primary goal, which was to remind everyone about the value of taking a pause and keeping our calm whenever we feel struggling in our physical, mental, and/or emotional facets instead of stressing or pressuring ourselves more. We have to remind ourselves that doing so is not a sign of weakness, and God will grant us the fruits of our labor or our aspirations; we only have to be still and believe.
At the same time, the group emphasizes that we should not be afraid to exhibit our vulnerable sides to people we trust and to pour our hearts because doing so may help us get over our current struggles. Furthermore, since we have no idea what others around us are going through, we must be careful with our words and deeds, too.
Watch out for the remaining Magpasikat 2024 entries in the coming days, so you better not miss an episode of “It’s Showtime,” Mondays to Saturdays at noon, on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, A2Z, GTV, and GMA 7.
