Ogie on Magpasikat performance with Vhong and joining the It’s Showtime family

Ogie Alcasid has found a new, happy place to showcase his comedy skills as the latest addition to the It’s Showtime family.

The singer-songwriter and sitcom virtuoso said he’s always excited to give madlang people their much-needed good vibes six days a week. “Lagi akong ganado to wake up everyday and face my It’s Showtime family every lunch time at samahan ang ating madlang peoplel habang nanonood,” shared Ogie in an interview with Kapamilya Chat.

The OPM icon added, “It’s a real blessing to me. Sabi nga nila, ‘Kaya mo ba ‘yan araw-araw?’ I don’t see it that way. I see them as a new family, bago kong makakasama na mababit at madasalin. I’m enjoying myself.”

His new assignment is quite symbolic of fresh start and resilience, of how the Kapamilya network continues to bring the best entertainment for the viewers despite the hurdles.

“Alam naman natin ang mga pinagdaanan natin bilang Kapamilya but in spite of that, we are here every day, pushing, exceeding the boundaries of what we can do para lang mabigyan natin ng kasiyahan ang madlang people,” he mused.

Ogie was officially welcomed as a mainstay host on It’s Showtime last November just in time for the show’s annual “Magpasikat” anniversary production where hosts are grouped for an all-out showdown. It served as Ogie’s initiation and while it was admittedly challenging, he enjoyed every second of it.

He was teamed up with Vhong Navarro. They went for a musical inspired by the hit Korean drama “Squid Game” but with a Pinoy flavor. The ‘VhoGie’ tandem opted to showcase traditional Pinoy street games such as “patintero,” “piko,” and “tagu-taguan.”

According to Ogie, his partner thought of ‘games’ as the seed of their Magpasikat 2021 skit titled “S-Kid Game” and from there, it grew into a whole musical. Ogie suggested infusing song and dance numbers in their performance, thus they invited the Streetboys and El Gamma Penumbra together with young singers including Jeremy Glinoga and Reiven Umali. OPM star Ebe Dancel as well as Ogie’s wife, Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez made special appearances.

It was one big musical extravaganza for the madlang people – quite gruelling and ‘buwis-buhay’ but definitely one for the books. “I had fun doing it. Maraming nagsasabi na napaka-stressful ng Magpasikat. Well, oo naman kasi ganyan ang performance, eh. Kailangan talaga itulak mo ‘yung sarili mo,” expressed Ogie.

The “Pasko Ng Mga Pinoy” singer is happy with his new family and he hopes the next year will be a better one for the show. Ogie is also back on his ‘hurado’ seat as It’s Showtime opens the sixth season of Tawag Ng Tanghalan.
