Having a cockroach and a caterpillar as main protagonists in a Magpasikat performance might not come as savory at first, but when Karylle and Jhong Hilario made them depict the notion of true love in one elaborate, Broadway-style musical, we are all captivated and moved.
For this year, they stunned and astonished the hearts of everyone through a hugot-filled musicale entitled “Kabi-Yuck ng Puso”, which took us on a roller-coaster ride of emotions. It chronicled the unconditional love between a romantic cockroach portrayed by Jhong and an ambitious caterpillar played by Karylle. The cockroach’s love for the caterpillar might be unrequited at first, since they are not alike, but he persisted in proving his love for her. In the end, unconditional love wins!
Aside from the unique and poignant concept, the Broadway-style production number had showcase Karylle and Jhong’s skills in singing, dancing, and acting onstage. Jhong made us laugh with his on-point comedic antics, spoofing the past entries for this year, while Karylle wowed us with her powerful singing voice.
Hashtags McCoy, Maru, and Wilbert and Girltrends Mikee and Dawn impressed everyone with their stage performance skills as well.
All the pieces used in the musical were all original and written specifically for the Magpasikat performance. The story was a brainchild of 5-time Palanca Awardee playwright Layeta P. Bucoy while the songs were written through the collaboration of Karylle and her husband rockstar Yael Yuzon.
The synchronized choreography, the marvelous set and props, and the colorful costumes were all impressive, leaving a sensory delight to the spectators.
Will Karylle and Jhong’s second team-up for Magpasikat emerge triumphant? Let’s find out tomorrow Saturday, October 21 as Magpasikat Week in celebration of It’s Showtime’s 8th year anniversary ends with the announcement of this year’s grand winner!
