Fiercer, bolder, braver, empowered—words that best describe the reinvented image of GT, who we all have known in the past as the GirlTrends.
Last May 9, GT was launched on It’s Showtime, with members Chienna Filomeno, Dawn Chang, Joana Hipolito, Krissha Viaje, Mica Javier, Mikee Agustin and Sammie Rimando.
As the one who studied how the business works, GT Mica stands as the group’s music producer. She also takes on the lead vocals along with GT Krissha who actually represented the country and won in the Japanese global talent competition “Nodojiman the World” in 2017.
GT Mikee who previously became an online sensation for her song covers belted some parts of the song as well. In their press conference, she already said that we would hear more of her talent in singing in the next days.
The role of being the group’s lead dancer remains with GT Dawn, who became a dance teacher when she was just 17 years old in an international school in Laguna.
Another member who stands as one of the main dancers in their group is GT Joana who was a former university cheerleader.
Known for her “outspoken and spirited” posts online, GT Chienna is one of the members who strongly expresses her desire to inspire and to empower. She is also a professional racer who has joined international competitions.
Finally, GT Sammie, who is the youngest member of the group, is also emerging as an exceptional dancer. She has worked hard to achieve this and has become one of GT’s top dancers.
These girls have indeed leveled up and to mark the notable image transformation of their group, they released their first single titled “Breakthrough.”
Composed by Mica, the song “Breakthrough” speaks about choosing to be positive in life and being empowered, which lies within one’s self. Telling us how her co-members play a vital role in the composition of the powerful song, Mica wrote this caption on an Instagram post a day before their launch.
“In a way all these girls and their stories as I’ve seen and heard them unfold over the past 3 years contributed to why I wrote this song in the first place—we are strong, talented, unique individuals that go through real life $#*!, yet we stand up for women empowerment, and that being different is OK, having an opinion and a voice is OK, going for your dreams is OK, agreeing to disagree and coming together for a greater cause is OK, being YOU is OK. What better way to spread this positive message than with them, and on the show that started it all for us.”
Shortly after their single launch, the music video for their song premiered last May 11 on their official YouTube account and on MYX.
