In a fast-paced world crowded with busy people running daily errands for a living, we often fail to take a stop and appreciate the little things around us like a stranger’s authenticity and kindness.
It’s Showtime hosts Karylle and Ryan Bang explore the streets of Sto. Tomas, Batangas and tag along a jeepney driver in his simple yet fruitful journey on the road.
The physical exhaustion due to a long drive and the traffic are among the challenges that Jose Como faces everyday as a jeepney driver. But he manages to keep a positive outlook despite all the hardships, in the streets and in his life, and shower his passengers with daily dose of good vibes and inspiration.
The simple man, born in Cagayan Valley, practices being a good Samaritan in his own ways by providing a full fare discount to senior citizens, PWD’s (Persons with Disabilities), pregnant women, honor students and teachers. He may not receive any amount from the privileged passengers but what he gets in return is something more fulfilling – their smiles and gratitude. “Dito ako masaya”, Jose replied with delight when asked about the motives behind his noble act.
Jose’s compassionate deed started out last Christmas season when he thought of a little gift he could offer his passengers until he decided to sustain his ‘promo’. He even came up with the idea of giving a whole day of free rides to all female passengers during the Women’s Day celebration.
Before taking a good hold of the steering wheel, Jose worked first as a poultry farm caretaker in Batangas; and this is where he met the love of his life. Jose’s wife has been working as a domestic helper in Hongkong for fifteen years already but she is about to come home for good in two years’ time.
To make the trip more fun, Karylle and Ryan volunteer to serve as Jose’s barkers but they meet a little dilemma on their way to the terminal – a flat tire. The good thing is Jose has already been equipped with enough expertise from years of experience on the road and solved the problem with ease.
As the household’s chief hero, Jose does not dream of much extravagance for his family but all he wishes is a simple life spent with them. To reward him of his selflessness, Jose receives a business showcase from the It’s Showtime family; and a scholarship for his son as well.
The inspiring story of Jose reminds us that even a little kindness can bring a huge impact in other people’s lives. Karylle adds that simple acts of charity must be celebrated everyday as it creates a ripple that can eventually encourage others to spread a plethora of goodwill. Kudos to you, Mang Jose, a real “TsuperHero”!
