Yam Concepcion’s remarkable rise as a topnotch Kapamilya leading lady

From stirring us with her compelling portrayals of annoying villains in the previous teleseryes she starred in, sought-after leading lady Yam Concepcion is set to captivate us through her newest role in the much-awaited ABS-CBN primetime series Init Sa Magdamag.

But before we get to meet her endearing and beautiful character Rita Tuazon-Alvarez, let’s take a look back first on her acclaimed performances in teleseryes through the years in this episode of Kapamilya Spotlight.

She kicked off her showbiz career in 2011 by appearing in several movies, such as in the erotic thriller film “Rigodon” wherein she was more known. The then up-and-coming actress further rose to fame in the 2013 daytime soap opera Carlo J. Caparas’ Dugong Buhay as she played Sandy de Guzman – the love interest of Ejay Falcon and Arjo Atayde’s respective characters. On that same year, she had her Maalaala Mo Kaya debut via its “Medalya” episode.

Yam then appeared in two episodes of the longest-running drama anthology in 2014, namely “Sanggol” and “Bukid, which enabled her to showcase her dramatic chops. She scored her first-ever kontrabida role in Pure Love, the Philippine remake of the Korean drama 49 Days, as she played the scheming Kayla Santos. She had her first-ever Ipaglaban Mo episode, at the same time, via the “Ibigay Ang Aming Karapatan” episode.

In 2015, she was cast as a supporting role in two teleseryes. First was in the Korean drama adaptation Two Wives, wherein she played the role of Michelle Olasco, then in All Of Me as Bianca Rellosa, the paramour of Arron Villaflor’s character Henry. She also headlined the Ipaglaban Mo episode “Hanggang Sa Huli” as the loving yet ferocious woman named Norie who staunchly fought for her right as the third wife of Allen Dizon’s character.

That appearance somehow gave us a hint of the character she would portray in her next project, Langit Lupa. In this daytime drama, she brought life to Lala Gutierrez, a woman who tried to make up for her husband Ian’s (Patrick Garcia) transgressions that unfortunately took a toll on the life of her best friend Dey (Alessandra de Rossi) and her family. Prior to that, she and Patrick first got to work together in the “Kapitbahay” episode of Ipaglaban Mo.

Yam eventually got included in the list of actors that guested in the long-running action-drama series FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano in 2017, playing the special role of Magdalena Dumaguit, a member of the Pulang Araw rebel group that became Cardo Dalisay’s (Coco Martin) love interest.

The year 2018 was definitely the biggest year for the 32-year-old actress as she got the breakthrough role that made her the talk of the town – Jade Flores, the unfaithful wife of Lino Bartolome (Jericho Rosales) – in the controversial marriage and infidelity drama Halik. Her impeccable portrayal indeed received heaps of praises and various reactions from the viewers, her colleagues, and top executives of the network.

She then went on to make a grand teleserye comeback last year via the major afternoon soap opera Love Thy Woman that she headlined as Dana Wong-Chao, the legal wife of Xian Lim’s character David and half-sister of Kim Chiu’s character Jia, who rebuked them for having an illicit affair.

And this year, she has Kapamilya viewers looking forward to her exciting portrayal of Rita Tuazon-Alvarez, the alluring young woman who will be torn between her past love Tupe (Gerald Anderson) and her present love Peterson (JM de Guzman).

Catch Yam on Init Sa Magdamag starting April 19, weeknights after Huwag Kang Mangamba on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, A2Z Channel 11, and iWantTFC.
