Kapamilya series Init Sa Magdamag made a lasting impact that will forever change the game in Pinoy teleserye culture. We talked about the stellar cast and their most brilliant performances in the series and one of the many advocacies subtly infused in the plot. This time, we’ll be re-scripting your teleserye lexicon as we list down the most memorable and trending quotes from the hit sexy-drama masterpiece.
“Gusto ko anakan mo ang asawa ko.”
We begin with the most shocking dialogue ever heard on primetime. In the story, Peterson (JM De Guzman) and Rita (Yam Concepcion) started having marital problems after a car accident that led to his impotence. Believing that a child will repair the cracks in their marriage, the couple went the scientific route via IVF (In-Vitro Fertilization). Oblivious to the past, Peterson tapped Tupe (Gerald Anderson) to be their sperm donor, thus the controversial request, “Gusto ko anakan mo ang asawa ko.”
It was such a game changer that it led to a chain of reaction among the main characters, dropped in different episodes. From Peterson’s “Gusto ko anakan mo ang asawa ko,” soon came Tupe’s “Kailan mo gustong anakan ko ang asawa mo,” then, Rita’s “Anakan mo ako;” hence the tagline “Ang pinakakontrobersyal na anakan ng taon.”
“Huwag kang titingin sa iba, makakapatay ako.”
This happened when Peterson and Rita were burning with passion for each other. She recovered from a traumatic breakup while he was redeemed from a troubled past, thus the feeling that their love is their reason to live. In this date night scene, Peterson looked Rita in the eye and told her he’d go crazy if he loses her. “Huwag kang titingin sa iba, makakapatay ako.” The line alone was scorching but it was made even more intense by the gush of emotions in Peterson’s eyes.
Peterson continued: “You are my savior.
Rita: “No, Hon. You are my savior. Hindi mo ako iniwan kahit na lagi kitang tinutulak palayo”
Peterson: “That’s what we do for love. We save each other.”
“You are your own woman. Kung ayaw mo, eh walang makakapilit diyan sa matris mo.”
As Rita’s dependable best friends, Raymond (Albie Casiño) and Meggy (Kate Alejandrino) became her source of sound advice when her marriage with Peterson started to look flimsy, and especially when she was in limbo about IVF. In this scene, Raymond and Meggy had a casual argument about the process. She was hinged on practical scientific reasons while he was concerned with Rita’s emotional and mental well-being, telling her, “You are your own woman. Kung ayaw mo, eh walang makakapilit diyan sa matris mo.”
Meggy replied: “Kung dito maaayos ang relationship nila, why not di ba? I mean, that’s what you do for true love.”
Raymond: “Paano naman itong kaibigan natin? Magpapaka-martir na lang in the name of love?”
“You can call me sick, psycho, crazy. But let me tell you, kung hindi ka pa talaga nabaliw once in your life dahil nagmahal ka, baka hindi ka pa talaga nagmahal.”
Crazy in love, Peterson went as far as installing surveillance cameras around Rita’s house to keep watch of her every move. In this scene, his legal counsel advised him to take a break, so he could put things in perspective and maybe realize that he’s getting over the line. Yet, Peterson justified his behavior as just an act of love, telling Atty. Eli (Brian Sy), “You can call me sick, psycho, crazy. But let me tell you, kung hindi ka pa talaga nabaliw once in your life dahil nagmahal ka, baka hindi ka pa talaga nagmahal.”
“Ito ba ‘yung mukha ng pagmamahal?”
In the aftermath of Peterson’s abuses, Rita visited Baby Margaret’s grave. Peterson arrived and tried to convince Rita to fix their relationship. She took off her face mask to reveal the scars, wounds, and bruises she got from his heaviest battering.
Guilty and sober, Peterson went down on his knees to beg for Rita’s forgiveness. Cue in the tear-jerker exchange.
Peterson: “Hon, it’s the demons. They take the best of me. Nagawa ko lang lahat ‘yun dahil sobra kitang mahal. I love you too much. Mahal na mahal kita, eh.”
Rita: “Masyado mo akong mahal? Tingnan mo nga ako, Peterson! Ito ba ‘yung mukha ng pagmamahal?”
“Let me be your adrenaline, so you can think and respond quickly during stressful situations.”
Charming as he is, Tupe dropped the cutest lines in the series. In this scene, he was trying to uplift Rita before her dreaded court hearing with Peterson.
“Sa buhay, may darating na isang tao na will totally and completely turn your life around.”
Known for its unique flavors, Init Sa Magdamag veered away from a grand wedding scene (due to the limitations of lock-in tapings as well), rather it opted for an imposing ‘wife reveal’ matched with a surprising cameo appearance of broadcast journalist Ces Drilon. In this scene, Ces was interviewing Peterson in light of his candidacy.
He was asked to comment on his troubled past that was all about women, party, and even drugs. Peterson said he was redeemed by love. He then introduced Rita as his wife. “Sa buhay ng isang tao, may darating na isang tao na will totally and completely turn your life around. So nung dumating siya, niligawan ko. Akala ko madadaan ko siya sa yaman ko, sa yabang ko. For a guy like me to wait for years until she finally said yes. That woman is my wife, Rita Macatangay-Alvarez.”
“Huwag mong kalimutan na mayroon tayong isang batas na kahit kailan hindi pwedeng mamanipula ng kahit na sino. ‘Yun ang batas ng Diyos.”
Rita was disappointed when Peterson managed to twist the truth and use his influence to escape detention. Frustrated, she ranted about truth, fairness, and justice. Her mother Celia (Aleck Bovick) encouraged her to keep the fight because Peterson can never distort the Highest Law of God. “Huwag mong kalimutan na mayroon tayong isang batas na kahit kailan hindi pwedeng mamanipula ng kahit na sino. ‘Yun ang batas ng Diyos na kahit yang si Peterson, hinding-hindi niya mababali.”
“Alam mo ba ‘yung pakiramdam na hindi kita mapaligaya? How about the fact na kailangan kong maghanap ng ibang lalaki to do what I’m supposed to do with my wife?”
This happened at the time when Peterson and Rita were still contemplating whether to undergo IVF or adopt. In this scene, Peterson displayed anger and frustrations over his inability to give Rita a child.
“Wala ka bang self-respect? You’re a married woman for crying out loud pero ayaw mong tantanan ang kuya ko!”
Although delivered at a time when she couldn’t understand what was happening, Hannah (Alexa Ilacad)’s dramatic monologue about self-respect and contentment in a relationship was relatable and relevant. She was mad, thinking that Rita was trying to wrap Tupe around her finger and everytime they get near each other, trouble happens.
