Yam, Gerald, and JM talk about first impressions and love scenes in Init sa Magdamag

Init sa Magdamag torchbearers Yam Concepcion, Gerald Anderson, and JM De Guzman take on the hot seat as they answer questions from the netizens in this episode of Kapamilya Confessions. We’ll get to know their first impressions of each other and how they pull off their love scenes.

But, first, get up close and personal with the trio via “Complete the Sentence” Challenge. The first sentence is about their biggest budget staple. Gerald spends more on food, JM on food and bills as well because he lives solo, while Yam said she doesn’t splurge too much during the pandemic.

For Gerald, life is incomplete without love. JM mentioned that God makes him whole. Yam, on the other hand, answered love, family, God, and ‘ayuda.’

On to the next item, Gerald said he wishes to put his heart on the people’s minds. That way, the public would know his core and probably become less critical. Yam wants to give Team Init sa Magdamag a pat on the back. JM answered, “I want to put my all to your engine, meaning your heart.”

Had life taken a different turn, Gerald would probably become a soldier, “I think lahat naman tayo may responsibilidad to give back to our country, magbigay ng serbisyo sa ating bansa.” Yam would’ve been an editor because she has a degree in Multimedia Arts while JM is probably a director for he loves storytelling.

If they could have superpowers, Gerald would go for super strength and flying, “Para paalisin ko muna ‘yung mga Chinese sa West Philippine Sea.” JM picks mind control. Yam’s dream superpower is to cure the world of COVID-19.

You can touch my heart but not my soul,” answered Yam and JM on the last question. Meanwhile, Gerald said, “You can touch my image but not my personal life.”

There’s no denying that Init sa Magdamag will be intensely passionate but it’s more than just a steamy love affair. It also tackles social issues such as mental health and family problems, and it pays homage to frontline medical workers.

The love angle isn’t just about stealing partners, either, as viewers might assume. It would pretty much dive deep into the different facets of love. Yam shared, “Sa teleserye namin, na-realize ko na ang love, iba-iba para sa bawat tao. It’s a case to case basis. Iba-iba tayo ng experiences pagdating sa pag-ibig. Walang tama o walang mali.”

Gerald expounded on the complexity of love, saying it takes more than just feelings to keep a relationship. “You can love someone pero kung wala sa tamang timing ng buhay natin, wala rin. It doesn’t mean na ‘pag mahal mo ang isang tao, it’s going to work out. It’s hard work, timing, and understanding.”

These stars, known for being real fighters, are always up for new challenges including a fair share of hot love scenes.  Yam, true to her feisty self, said it’s her job to follow what’s on the script. “Nakasulat sa script, eh so wala kang magagawa. Tinanggap mo ‘yung project ‘di ba? Eh, ‘di gawin mo.”

She knew that her role would require some skin, thus she prepared by keeping her shape, although dieting is a real struggle in the lock-in bubble. She’s also thankful that her leading men and directors were very cautious.

A big part of JM’s dynamics is discussing the scene with his partner, as a sign of respect to Yam, “Respeto kay Yam kasi babae pa rin siya. Kailangan ko siyang tanuning kung ano ‘yung pwede o hindi pwedeng gawin sa eksena. Para lang professional at hindi mabastos si Yam.”

For Gerald, working with Yam is such a breeze. It helps that she’s a no-fuss kind of girl, “Someone chill and relax, one of the boys.” The challenge though is keeping his physique for the sexy scenes. He said it was difficult to control weight gain in the lock-in bubble.

Since the project came soon after A Soldier’s Heart, Gerald was admittedly hesitant at first. He bumped into JM at the gym and the latter opened up about the lined up series. It was then when he started to feel the excitement, so he said ‘yes’ to the offer right after that conversation with JM.

Besides, he is grateful to be chosen for the show, “Kasi sa dami natin, pwede naman ibigay sa iba ‘yan o i-consider ang iba but for me to be one of the choices hanggang ngayon, very thankful.”

Yam revealed that working with Gerald is a wish she manifested some time in 2012. She was then interviewed by Boy Abunda and asked for her dream leading man. She mentioned Gerald, “Dream come true, attraction, prophesy. Nakuha ko ‘yung gusto ko.” She’s also thankful that the series pushed through amid the pandemic.

It sure took a lot of preparations to mount Init sa Magdamag under ‘new normal.’ The filming kicked off from months of pre-production including script reading and a series of back and forth with the creatives. JM added that he has pegs for his characters and he also prepared by keeping himself physically and mentally healthy. Gerald mentioned that they make sure to work on their chemistry by keeping a give-and-take attitude.

On their first impressions about each other, Yam revealed that she used to be scared of her leading men. Gerald is quiet but a real confidante, she said, “Approachable pala siya. Makakausap mo pala siya sa mga concerns mo.” She knows her secrets are safe with him. She also assumed that JM is aloof and quiet, “Pero ‘pag nakilala mo siya, komedyante, nakakatawa siya without even trying to be funny. Akala ko pikon pero siya ‘yung mahilig mang-pikon. Very sensitive siya so kailangan ingat-ingat din but I can say that I found a friend in him.”

JM, on the other hand, calls Yam their happy pill and Gerald down to earth, someone he can easily share problems with. Gerald would agree with the description about Yam, adding that the actress can keep up with male adrenaline. She would go boxing and working out with the boys at the lock-in location.

How hot is Init sa Magdamag? Yam answered, “Nakakapaso ng damdamin. Mata-touch ang mga puso ninyo dahil sa kwento namin.” Take JM’s words for it, “Naglulumiyab na emosyon po ang makukuha ninyo sa aming show. We guarantee you that, get your money back ‘pag hindi.” Gerald assured viewers, “Napakainit ng kwento ng bawat karakter.”
